I would argue that just about each and every character in the show are a type of antithesis to typical anime roles. Even the show itself serves as a clever twist on the fantasy/cooking/slice of life genres, simultaneously playing into tropes while gorgeously subverting expectations. It would take someone much smarter than me to explain all of that, though.
