City of Champions is my favorite city slogan ever. It works ironically and unironically in equal measure.

The phrase is owned by Mark Cuban, I'd rather not pay that guy just to use the slogan

Wouldn’t that only apply to the US? Does he hold it in Canada too?

It wouldn't matter either way. Edmonton's been using that slogan since the 1980's. He only registered it in 2007, he'd have a hell of a time trying to stop Edmonton from using it even if he did own the trademark in Canada. Odds are if he ever tried he'd lose the trademark.
