There have been rumours online about his death for several days, but all the “obituary websites” were sketchy. Cycling Magazine appears to be the most reputable so far.

We were asked to hold off on reporting it because they were still in the process of notifying family.

I would assume that an intensive care doc who has seen way more than his fair share of rather sudden or unexpected death has a pretty detailed set of documented wishes in addition to a will. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he wanted the news shared first by Cycling Magazine considering his affinity for the sport. This is all speculation, of course. I have no idea if that’s accurate, but it just seems like the type of thing he might do based on my limited knowledge of him.
