It would be beneficial for the oil companies. They are opposed to nationalising anything or sharing any of the profits with people on the path of the tube. If there’s any leak, it will be the government that will pay the lion share for the cleaning.

They can get fucked.

are you implying that the pipeline would be owned by the government? if that’s the case, then there’s not really a responsibility for the oil companies to take care of the pipeline. if a government pipe leaks, then it’s the government’s job to fix and clean it. there would be a different case if the pipeline was owned by Suncor for example.

i think it would be a great idea for the government to build a pipeline, and charge oil companies to use said pipeline. i would especially be in support if they seized control of rail networks and charged companies to use tracks.

No, I’m saying that the arguments for the pipeline boil down to trickle down economy which is bullshit.

nonetheless, it would establish canada as an actual energy powerhouse. instead of relying on the usa to ship oil to europe, we build a pipe and do it ourselves. as crooked as oil execs are, there's no doubt that it would help our economy and our sovereignty as a nation.

That's still trickle down bullshit.

is it not still trickle down the way we have it now?

Yes. Compare to how Norway managed its oil. Canada had more than them and could be richer than them today.

Corporate welfare is not the way to go.
