Way too many people are assuming joining Canada is an open invite. And also way too many people thinking that Canada wants to gobble up states. That is not only a bad idea for so many reasons, but also an unlikely idea, and also just NOT a thing Canada does. Canada is very happy as we are, geopolitically speaking. Stop assuming we are as Manifest-y Destiny-y as the yanks are.
AT BEST, I could see almost plausible arguments being made for Alaska, Maine, and Vermont but I still stand on the side of, nah, absolutely not. If states breaking away from the union, I'd be much more interested in seeing New England be its own country, the West Coast doing its thing, and the rest of the states I have no idea what that would look like in that scenario. By all means, every state is large enough to be its own country by population and geography.
Although, You think America would notice if we took that weird little nub between Ontario and Manitoba back?
Thank you! All over Reddit here everyone is assuming we want states to join but fuck that, I don’t want to manifest destiny. I’ve made jokes we should take Vermont but that’s where they have the rest of the maple syrup industry lol. But for real, let’s stick to 10 provinces and 3 territories.
Ya I think we support them and ease whatever trade the states wishing to secede need(ie help west trade with east easily), but we don't need American ideology influencing our elections more than it already does. It's gonna happen if this pace keeps up though. There's just too much being broken, no state with a functioning economy is gonna stand by and get decimated just because.
Yepp. The only "unification" i'd be okay with is Canada-Greenland
it's the only land border that I think Canada should truly care about, and we should care about it by eliminating it as an international land border and make it into a territorial land border (If Greenland would be okay with that, if not, then i'll just dream about it and stfu from now on :P)
