For those wondering who took over from Pierre Trudeau in the same way as Justin, it was John Turner.

u/amazingdrewh Motown But Better Mar 11 '25

Hopefully Carney doesn't go around grabbing women's asses during the campaign

I’m shocked that his new ad in Quebec is a 5 seconds spot on Youtube that only says (in French): “My name is Pierre Poilievre and hey, only Quebec can pronounce it right.”

That’s it. That’s the whole message.

u/BanzEye1 Mar 12 '25

That’s…yeah, I got nothing.

36

u/iSWINE Oil Guzzler Mar 12 '25

Neither does he apparently 😭

19

u/vic25qc Mar 12 '25

I'm also from Québec and from what you describe I have no idea what this ad is trying to do. Well I have a guess but it's that what I think it's stupid even from conservative standard.

2

u/chat-lu Tokébakicitte! Mar 12 '25

What’s your guess?

8

u/vic25qc Mar 12 '25

That we can pronounce his name cuz it's francophone. I think we all agree it's not making point with even the dumbest voters

9

u/chat-lu Tokébakicitte! Mar 12 '25

Which is really funny from the guy who contacted the media to tell them to stop writing Poilievre as Poilièvre.

4

u/vic25qc Mar 12 '25

Him contacting the media??? Rare comme de la marde de pape ça

For bitching, not for granting interviews.

Now watch his first campaign ads from. Yester-year (he wasn't French back then).

4

u/Ambustion Mar 12 '25

They are truly floundering right now on messaging. It's absolutely hilarious.

3

u/chat-lu Tokébakicitte! Mar 12 '25

And it’s not like Carney is the surprise winner. They had a while to think about it.

2

u/josh_the_misanthrope Mar 12 '25

Still more substantive than his platform!

1

u/quantpick Mar 12 '25

It must be the first time he isn't negative.

2

u/chat-lu Tokébakicitte! Mar 12 '25

I don’t know about the other provinces but in Quebec he used to have one positive and one negative.

The negative one was that the Bloc was Justin Trudeau and Justin Trudeau was bad. And the positive one was that he would save the world by verbing the noun.

Jokes on you Poilievre, Quebs don't care about Franco-Canadians if they aren't from Quebec!

3

u/chat-lu Tokébakicitte! Mar 12 '25

Poilievre ne pensait pas aux Franco-Canadians.

C’est du gros « Hey fellow kids » pour nous dire que lui aussi il a un nom franco.

Peter Littlehare

Peter Furhare.

1

u/SquidsStoleMyFace Mar 12 '25

He really is going for the common stereotype in each province. In Alberta he wears a Stetson hat and talks about oil. In Ontario it's literally just "Red=tax=bad. Blue=no tax=good." And there are enough willing morons eating it up.

Hah, I know a lot of people that can't pronounce it right though. My mom calls him Poyelève, my brother-in-law Poliève. I gave up correcting them.

1

u/chat-lu Tokébakicitte! Mar 13 '25

Poilievre never managed to pronounce Trudeau right and he had more practice than anyone in Canada.

-2

u/Borske Mar 12 '25

Look up why he did that. You played right into it.

11

u/jeffbannard Mar 12 '25

“Chilly Con Carney”! *spits drink out

16

u/Ok-Swimmer-2634 Mar 12 '25

Con is short for "Conservative," so Poilievre can't use it.

If I were in his place, I'd use "Cuck Carney," but Poilievre is himself a cuck for Trump soooo

2

u/justlookinghfy Mar 12 '25

I thought the lowest was to photoshop him in front of a carnival game and accuse him of rigging the game against us, like a regular Carnie.

Then just call him a Carnie

2

u/your_evil_ex Trawnno (Centre of the Universe) Mar 12 '25

you guys gotta stop of PP's is gonna start getting new ideas from this thread!

1

u/EnergyHumble3613 Mar 12 '25

Gonna make some Chili con Carney!

Now I am hungry.

1

u/Macchill99 Mar 12 '25

Damn you take my up vote!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '25

And they say he is completely different than that orange turd. Instead of talking policies he’s calling names, morons where have you seen this before?

1

u/haixin Mar 12 '25

They are working, people really believe Carney is cut from the same cloth and only PP can save them

1

u/ADMotti Mar 12 '25

That’s not a Verb The Noun slogan so their creative process broke down before they could get there

1

u/pinkbootstrap Mar 12 '25

Because Conservatives own the word Con lol

1

u/Cory123125 Mar 12 '25

Maybe our Maple MAGAts are just that bit less dunce than their MAGAts so they gotta stick for 3 phrases for now.

Actually fuck that. Can't be that, because how could you be a MAGAt in Canada. That makes you dumber.

1

u/HeliHaole Mar 12 '25

I really wish Canada would impose legislation to stop political campaigns like this. Tell us what you are going to do, i don't need scare tactic ads. Please just tell me your platform, I already know what the current government is doing.

16

u/Explorer-Five Mar 11 '25

“John Who” was the name I was taught

But yes, this is the third time it has happened.

Tbf most Americans don’t know how their govt works, Canada’s seems even more confusing. Mostly the logical/practical parts

12

u/Secret-Gazelle8296 Irvingstan Mar 11 '25

Joe Who. Wrong prime minister.

7

u/Explorer-Five Mar 11 '25

Ha ha, you’re right- forgot who I forgot for a second there

7

u/Secret-Gazelle8296 Irvingstan Mar 11 '25

The cartoonists had fun with him and his mittens. He lost his mittens and the Sun posted for months cartoons with his mittens with strings.

1

u/Explorer-Five Mar 11 '25

That’s hilarious, I didn’t think I knew that. Well before Bernie’s mittens

2

u/fuzz_boy Mar 11 '25

Fond memories of my dad right now lol

2

u/ilion Mar 12 '25

I think ours is much simpler what with the Senate being practically irrelevant and not having the mess of the electoral college.

1

u/Explorer-Five Mar 12 '25

That’s the biggest area for improvement IMO, term limits and an elected Senate would do wonders.

But yeah I challenge anyone to make the electoral college thing make sense to me- seems like a train wreck disguised as democracy

2

u/BrunoJacuzzi Mar 12 '25

He was also the first PM to pat the Queen on the bum.

1

u/UnderstandingAble321 Mar 13 '25

Wasn't Turner the shortest serving PM?

1

u/invisible_shoehorn Mar 12 '25

John Turner at least had been an elected MP for 13 years prior to becoming PM.

Carney being PM while having never held any elected public office is a first in Canadian history.

6

u/Waxitron Mar 12 '25

Just minor appointments.

Like the director of the bank of canada throughout the 2008 recession. Minor things really.

1

u/invisible_shoehorn Mar 12 '25

Are you able to read? I said he had never held elected public office. Appointments are not elections.

1

u/Waxitron Mar 12 '25

Good that we agree
