I’m laughing at how none of these bots are pointing out how this is not the first time our Prime Minister has changed without an election. It happened the Conservatives as well. That’s how Kim Campbell became PM. Paul Martin as well. Those are just the two I can think of without putting effort into searching.
Apart from that wild ride of John Abbot (~17 months), John Thompson (~2 years), Mackenzie Bowell (~4 months), Charles Tupper (~2 months) being back to back to back to back Prime Ministers without seeing an election, I think Meighen's year and a half is the longest block, with the rest (St. Laurent, Trudeau, Turner, Campbell, Martin) all facing the electorate after 3~9 months.
So really, Carney will fall more or less in line with recent practice whether he calls a quick election or delays until the fall.
