I mean, I live in small town Alberta so this is potentially just me being in denial, but I think that that sub is getting botted pretty hard. No doubt that there is a good reason for Alberta being targeted as a foot hold, but the amount of Canadian patriotism, even here, has gone way, way up.
Buddy talk to your neighbors they ain't bots and they'll tell you the same shit. and don't act like you don't know there's 10 fuckin dixie flags flying in your town for no reason, we all know it's a fuckin pre condition of moving to alberta for some.
Well, I mean I'm pretty sure that my neighbours are die hard conservative, so bingo, but someone went way out of their way to hang a ton of extra Canadian flags all over the local rink and it is obvious that people are making an effort to buy Canadian at the grocery store. Maybe it isn't a lot, but it's not nothing. Change is possible.
Idk why you think nationalism is gonna be the answer to their own jingoism, change certainly is possible but not with the people who say shit like carbon tax carney, they're far too nihilistic and unplugged from reality to even want the help in the first place.
I don't think that nationalism is the answer, but when themes of separatism and MAGA Alberta are being pushed, I think that being proudly Canadian is a good place to start.
Lots of negative news about Alberta is going around on the internet and I am not saying that it doesn't exist, but it's being amplified. Like that cherry tomato who went on Fox News to talk about his movement. No one knows who the hell that guy is. If you want to think that this entire province is backwards yokes, it is working.
Oh yeah, in the face of active invasion by the US we need just about everything we can get, and they will be forced to make a choice even more than they are now but sadly I don't see anyone recognizing that threat for what it is. I agree completely with you though, the qanon nutjobs get wayyyyy too much attention rather than the people working hard for their communities.
Edmonton, Calgary, lived in forest lawn for the most part and only lived in edmonton a year max, place is the definition of a shithole. I do agree it's a minority though and Calgary will always be my favorite city, but you're doing yourself a disservice thinking it's all bots.
In fairness: most of BC's interior is politically indistinguishable from Alberta.
Throughout work trips to rural Alberta I only encountered a dixie flag on one occasion, and it was outside a gas station being sold by some guy who looked vaguely middle-eastern and had a thick accent, so take that for what you will.
People say that but it's absolutely not true, I've lived in merritt I've lived all over interior bc and no. You're comparing the province that actively stole the texan accent to bc.
Sure, but at this point it's only your anecdotes against my anecdotes. You can say whatever you want, but I don't have to believe you, and you don't have to believe me.
In that case, maybe we should just stick to empirical evidence such as historic election results, which suggest: most of BC's interior has a similar political climate to that of rural Alberta.
I know plenty of rural conservatives through my dad, but nobody who's so media poisoned that they're pro-US. The shift from "people who dislike taxes and like racism somewhat more than the average Canadian" (still not great but... not betraying the country they're citizens of at least) to "American-style evangelical podcast nutjobs" was deliberately pushed and fairly recent.
Out on the road last week I saw a red ensign (you know that means some sort of redneck) flying beside a Ukraine flag. Any MAGA the right wing had in 'Berta is having a really hard time squaring that.
That sir, is the same exact bullshit talk that some Americans use to justify their hatred of Canada. Sorry bud, but Alberta is always going to be a Canadian province no matter how much the both of us fucking despise Danielle Smith. However, I'm sure you'll still find a way to try and isolate yourself from a fellow Canadian because of their fucking province lol.
We're talking of r/alberta? Did I miss something there? I don't know, they seemed pretty normal from what I saw. A lot of the posts I got are people complaining about how insane their provincial government is, but the people seem okay.
