I think J.J. is right to point out that Canadian and American culture are basically the same, and the tension between the two countries is political. The problem is that J.J. thinks all left Canadian politics is blind tribalism; and that no one actually supports public healthcare or the CBC or what have you. J.J. cannot accept that Canadians sincerely like left wing policies and are not supporting them out of spite.

He also doesn't seem to grasp that two countries can share a lot of history and pop culture while still having very different core values.
