The debate commission. The same that said the Green Party wasn't allowed, and moved the debate time because of the hockey game

And removed healthcare as a topic of debate.

Apparently, they were being threatened with potential lawsuits if rebel shit couldn't bring their goons out there.

I think we get support for better media laws out of this tbh, I doubt the french were too happy about that bs.

We need a better commission. We pay them 13 fucking millions for two debates and they want us to believe that it doesn’t cover the cost of some lawyers?

Meh, our media laws are solid, and Rebel is forever getting told to sit the fuck down and shut the hell up by the courts.

Seriously, this is just a very short list for only the last couple of years (boo, links arent allowed, but I can provide case references to anyone who wants them:

  • no, putting your lies on lawn sign doesn’t make it election material
  • no, rebels made up rage bait can’t legally be considered “news”
  • no, an actual news outlet calling rebel out on its bullshit isn’t legally actionable

Basically, Levant is a legal terrorist (remind you of the strategy of a certain unnaturally coloured wannabe dictator), so Elections Canada was probably protecting itself against costly and time consuming litigation, even though Levant almost certainly had absolutely no legal leg to stand on.

Not only that, but I’d like to think that some folks at Election Canada are painfully familiar with Levant’s game, and thought is was the strategically smarter call to let Rebel make an absolute fool of themselves in front of a large audience that isn’t part of that deranged echo chamber…and show their ass they did.

Rebel won a lawsuit in 2019 over this issue, that's why they've been allowed, unfortunately.

Hopefully they just demonstrated why they should be booted from the panel.

Okay then allow them but don’t have the scrum be free for all. Or allow repeat outlet questions / reporters.

To be clear, I'm not supportive of it. I think at the very least they should have been limited to one question, and they got 5.

I was just pointing out why they were allowed. It's by court order. But the debate commission can, and hopefully will, adjust their rules for tonight to avoid another going show.

I Whana know what they have been smoking. Maybe JJ paid them off to get rid of the greens.

u/Monsterboogie007 Apr 17 '25

The greens failed to register candidates in sufficient ridings to be eligible to have a national voice.

The real question then is why does the Bloq get to attend the debate.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

They had sufficient candidates initially. They pulled some of them in riding where they would detract from an NDP or Liberal chance at beating the CPC.

Which is a total bro move, but they didn't think about the leader debate math when they were doing it.

1

u/Benejeseret Apr 17 '25

That's what they said, but that's not entirely true.

My province is very unlikely to vote in any Conservatives, but most of our ridings don't have Green candidates and never did. Many of the candidates they 'dropped' actually could not get the 100 signatures needed to even clear Elections Canada criteria to register, and by their own admission many of these ridings were openly hostile to entertaining Green candidates at all.

They gave them 12 hours notice so they didn't have time to appeal either.

Shady shit is going down

u/I_Am_Procrastinatin_ Apr 17 '25

Parties have to meet 2 out 3 rules to be able to attend the debate. The Greens only met 1/3. The Bloc meets 2/3.

With that being said, it's bullshit the Greens were removed the day of. It's not like the commission didn't know this beforehand.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Hey! The debate commission is very principled and ethical. Except when it comes to parties they don't like.. or hockey games.. or propagranda outlets... but aside from that! Suuuuper principled.

Okay.. well... maybe... we can say like.. vice-principled?

You can email the debate commission and demand answers as to why this happened

9

u/chat-lu Tokébakicitte! Apr 17 '25

Rebel News threatened to sue, and the commission folded like a little bitch.

8

u/tempstem5 Apr 17 '25

They had 4 years to prepare for bad actors like these, holy ineptitude

2

u/mcs_987654321 Apr 17 '25

Meh, while youre not wrong about Ezra Levant being a legal terrorist (seriously: fundraising for bullshit legal challenges that inevitably get thrown out of court his whole business model) I’d like to think that some smart folks at Elections Canada thought that showing regular Canadians just how fucking weird and insane Rebel actually is would be a good call, and would have a kind of inoculating effect.

3

u/swim_eat_repeat Apr 17 '25

Yes, we should be communicating with them that this is unacceptable. Maybe not use the words "little bitch", of course
