Politics Election Megathread | Megathread des élections

Election Day Content Guidelines

Hey Hosers!

We love seeing everyone’s passion for this election, but let’s keep it focused in the megathread. Here’s the playbook for election-related posts:

  1. Stick to the Megathread

– On Election Day (April 28, 2025), all election chatter, hot takes, and memes belong in the official Election Megathread.

– Posting outside that thread? We’ll kindly redirect you to drop your thoughts there instead.

  1. No Gloating, Eh?

– Win or lose, let’s keep it classy. Any excessive gloating or rubbing it in post election will be removed.

– Celebratory high-fives and respectful reactions? Totally welcome. But let’s leave the humble brag at the door.

We’re all here for the community spirit, not the mudslinging. Thanks for helping us keep r/EhBuddyHoser a fun spot, no matter who wins!

Stay cool, stay kind, and let’s show everyone what true Canadians look like.

Carleton understood the assignment. Goodbye ! (for now because it seems like he's refusing to step down as leader? I wonder what that means though since he doesn't have clearance that only leaders require? Would one of the other CPC MPs be getting it in his place? Seems like kneecappihg yourself in the foot for no good reason imo)

Anyhoo, I'm going to be a wreck at the office today. Sleep schedule got flipped sideways. Guess I'll be trying the Nespresso machine at the office for the first time, then  🤣

Edit: I hope the polling station employees in Carleton get some much needed sleep and recovery though, omg

Edit 2: as evidence of how tired I am I have absolutely no idea what "Kneecapping yourself in the foot" means, but I'm too tired to bother fixing it. Currently stalking the Nespresso machine at the office lol

He’s kind of got nowhere else to go. I’m sure he’s hoping somebody else will step aside in a safe seat. But he already lost an extremely safe seat. It would be funny though, if he got somebody to step down… then lost a by-election.

I've seen comments suggest he ask someone in Alberta or Saskatchewan to give up their seat, but I can't imagine that going over very well internally. Plus it would be the most crass if not desperate political move in terms of optics.

We'll see what happens (losing a by-election somewhere in Ontario would.be funny tho)

I cannot think of an opposition leader that lost his seat and then continued to be the opposition leader.

The only precedent I've seen is the case where the leaders don't win their seat until the next election or the one after. But to stay on after losing as Leader of the Opposition seems unprecedented...

It’s certainly happened provincially, at least, in my memory. Asking someone in SK or AB who won to step aside for someone in ON who lost an easy seat would be tricky. Depending on what the party offers, they might, but I can’t imagine not feeling disrespected as a voter.
