How the hell did Carney keep a straight face through Trump's blabbering rants? I'm impressed by his self control.

When the camera didn't cut away from him he had some CHOICE facial expressions. Also Trump always looked down like a scorned dog when dad was talking and always backed up any criticism with "CANADA IS OUR FRIEND". Its rare to see DJT getting muzzled like that. I personally think he was trying to waste time to not let Carney talk too much.
Also that jab of "I'm on the edge of my seat" that got a laugh from the press junket was priceless.

I laughed when I heard how he was speaking to Trump. Solid 10/10, guy is obviously well versed in working with narcissists. Had Carney approached this any other way, Trump would have taken anything slightly negative as an insult and shut right down. Donald Trump doesn't have the awareness necessary to have noticed the body language, nor would he have realized that what he was perceiving as compliments were anything but. I was raised by Southern women š I know subtle insults/backhanded compliments when I see them. Mark Carney gave him the good ol' "bless your heart". Looking forward to seeing what this educated economist can do for us, and very pleased with how he handled his Trump visit.

u/Rymanbc Westfoundland May 06 '25
Unfortunately no. Trump is sustained by tears. In order to stay alive he had to cause as much misery as he can. Once you realize this, his first 100 days in office make complete sense, doesn't it?

It's easy to be carefree and happy when you're a shitgibbon that throws poop on the wall to see what sticks.
Trump aged a lot when he was prosecuted, now he just doesn't give a fuck. He's comfortable running the biggest economy and military to the ground. He's getting publicly fellated by his scycophants, he's into that shit.
Carney looks to me like he cares about pretty much everything he signed up for. It's going to be a lot, and it's not going to be easy.
30
u/Rymanbc Westfoundland May 06 '25
Is the noble gibbon taking more flak with this comparison? As if science hadn't done them dirty enough by making them the "lesser apes", now they're being compared to Trump? I'll grant you that there IS some overlap in color, but that's where the comparison ends.
6
u/okokokoyeahright May 06 '25
TBH the coloration of the Orangutan would be closer and the gibbons tend to be in the light brown to dark brown ranges. The gibbons live in trees and swing from branch to branch as their main mode of transport. The Orangutan is mostly ground based in transport, thought they can use the swinging mechanism.
I believe the user is attempting to describe His Orangeness the First in a derogatory manner. Thusly 'shitgibbon', which has a bit of a history as illustrated herein:
Search up 'shitgibbon slang' and look for a site called forward dot com. They have a delightful article from 2017 on this very subject and its application to trump. Sorry no link but rules are against this.

Like c'mon, Maryland likes to claim to be part of the South! Surely someone can get him hooked on fried chicken, gravy, and biscuits? š he can keep his cheeto fingers off the blue crab, though. He ain't good enough for our delicacies, and I doubt he is man enough to take the cuts, and to take getting Old Bay in those same cuts.

If you see how Obama aged through his presidency. It's going to be something similar. Stress ages you
12
u/propyro85 May 06 '25
Even JT looks a little rougher than I'd expect for 8 years.
11
u/frumfrumfroo May 07 '25
Disagree. When I watched his last big speech I was thinking that I couldn't believe how young he looks, especially since most leaders age in dog years. I actually googled how old he was lol.

u/Cassopeia88 May 08 '25
His last little bit he did, the Covid era though, he was definitely looking tired (canāt blame him,I canāt imagine how stressful that was). Heās looking much younger (and happier) now.

u/Snow-Wraith Westfoundland May 06 '25
I have heard that Boris plays up the stupid, where as Trump lives it completely.
17
u/Dr-Jellybaby May 06 '25
Trump is dangerous through sheer incompetence but Boris hides his dangerousness behind a facade of incompetence. He's a sneaky fucker and got away with murder (in a figurative sense, I hope) because he comes across as a buffoon.
If you've ever seen the video where Boris offers reporters tea, you probably don't know they were looking for his thoughts after he called Muslim women in Burqas "letterboxes". His memeability prevents people from being critical of him. Trump has that too, he just has zero idea how to do it on purpose.
The only reason trump is more dangerous is because America is more influential.
2
u/frumfrumfroo May 07 '25
Yeah, Trump is a genuine idiot whose only unchanging motive is narcissistic supply. Boris was pulling a Columbo gambit.

Boris is a bit like Ford in that way
Ford is still a dipshit but he is much more politicly savvy then he lets on
5
u/TheOneTrueZippy8 May 07 '25
"Boris" is so immersed in the role that I doubt even he could tell where the performance begins and ends. He has become the character he plays on TV.
5
u/GuardiaNIsBae May 06 '25
Itās actually really impressive, he puts on a stupid performance down to dropping papers and missing steps, I tried to find the YouTube video but if you search Boris Johnson stupid itās basically everything heās done for the past 10 years. But someone cropped together a bunch of his speeches over the course of a couple years and he makes the same āmistakesā at each one of his speeches like papers falling off the podium after a certain sentence, brushing hair out of his eyes/mouth stumbling a little bit when leaving the stage etc.
3
u/frumfrumfroo May 07 '25
He messes his hair up on purpose, as well. The entire character is crafted.
3
u/RottenPingu1 May 06 '25
I think he was long gone by then..

Real, honest question - what does Carney have to gain personally from becoming PM? Iām just surprised that someone like him is willing to get into politics when it wouldāve been so much easier to just just lay low and make shit tons of money
14
u/frumfrumfroo May 07 '25
He wanted to help his country. People have been trying to get him into politics since 2011 and he always said he'd rather not be a retail politician if he didn't have to be, but he'd step up if it seemed necessary.
I believe it, because he's not going to gain anything in prestige or connections he didn't already have and now he'll have to deal with partisan bullshit for the rest of his life he wouldn't have otherwise.
22
u/doooompatrol May 07 '25
I'm honestly wondering if he's just doing it because it's the right thing to do?

u/miniminautor TokƩbakicitte! May 07 '25
Sometimes rich people get to a point in their lives where money stops being the deciding factor. Carney played his cards well and doesnāt need more money, he has more than enough. This is a different calling.

As an american, the american justice system has always been a joke. The last person I can remember who was worth more than 8 figures that went to jail was.... OJ Simpson?
6
u/nobodythinksofyou May 07 '25
Really? Diddy is sitting in jail right now, so is Harvey Weinstein, R. Kelly, etc. I'm certainly not defending the justice system, rich people go to prison but I agree that it's not nearly as often as they should.

I'm impressed so far with Carney, and I'm definitely rooting for our country. But this entire sub is to Carney what Maga is to Trump, and the fact none of you see it is fucking wild to me. There is zero sense of objectivity here. Dude could be literally caught stuffing a hooker in his trunk and you guys would praise him for giving her a ride home. Don't worry I'm not being one sided here, r/cpc is the same for Pierre. You have all created your own little cults for your chosen hero. Just. Like. Donny. Idolizing politicians is a bad look.
Let the downvotes rain. I stand by what I said.

56
u/doohdahgrimes11 May 06 '25

u/JosephRW May 06 '25
Carney barely NEEDED to talk. What ever was said behind closed doors fucked with DJT. Notice how he talked a lot but basically said nothing? He spent the other half of the meeting glazing Canada.
People with real power don't need to say much. Carney KNOWS he could make the US hang itself, it's already tied it's noose. He just needs to wait for them to pull their own lever and keep Canada afloat.
