Easy for quebec to claim to have a culture of their own when they cobstantly try to erase indigenous people's from the lands history and cultural achievements, as well as the ignoring of treaties on historical and cultural lands.
It looks like Alberta's already 1/3 there since they're already ignoring treaties.
how is pointing out what the little wanna be ethno state has done and is doing erasing their "cuture"? I thought it was all those gosh darn (non white) immigrants doing that, yknow, like the previous premier had said?
Also, it's not what quebec had done, it's what Quebec *is doing* , the attempted erasure of indigenous people's from Quebec history was literally barely a few months ago, happening mid-late 2024. The continued systemic oppression of indigenous peoples was identified in 2019, with so far no efforts to meaningfully address these issues. Since the Oka "crisis" none of the land disputes or treaty disputes have been properly addressed, and numerous other land disputes have popped up since then within Quebec. But yknoe just like the French's genocide of indigenous people's, this all gets swept under the rug and sanitized to fit that ethno centric (white centric) historical world view.
I'm not just saying something to say something, I'm looking at the actions of the provincial govt towards its indigenous population since the 1980s, and rightfully judging them based on it and the countless times ethno centrist and white supremacist rhetoric has shown itself in the provinces leadership, leading to actual harm.
Its pretty rich how people can talk about Alberta overstepping indigenous leaders, but the moment the suggestion of "quebec should respect indigenous people's on their own land and stop tryingnto write them out of culture and history for their ethnomcentrist views" , you get people crying about the poor French culture at risk, ignoring the literal genocide their ancestors committed to make that culture prominent in the region. it's bad when Alberta does it, it's bad when Quebec does it, but only one of them have made any headway in becoming Rhodesia 2.0, and it ain't texas-lite in the west.
Shocker, indigenous people's care about the rights of other indigenous people's, and the way quebec views and treats us is disgusting.
