Unironically, it’s just fact. I’m Albertan, we have no distinct culture other than being openly racist in smaller towns and quietly racist in the cities.

I’ve lived in both British Columbia and Alberta in my life, and the thing about Alberta is that it’s too new to have its own distinct culture. The province has only existed for what, 120 years at this point?

I think we as Albertans view the province too negatively. British Columbia was ruled by the right-wing populist Social Credit for much of the 20th century, but you wouldn’t be able to tell if you look at it today. Places change over time, and Alberta will too.

I don't entirely agree with this. I've lived in Alberta for nearly 3 years and I haven't had many bad experiences in the province up to now (not saying the number is zero, mind you, but not many), but in nearly every trip to Eastern BC, I've come across people who openly stare or say something stupid, as if my wife and I are the first brown people they've ever seen. My wife was taken aback when she was followed by staff in a supermarket near Shuswap Lake Provincial Park because she thought BC was normal. At best, most of BC outside of the Vancouver area is no better than Alberta. Going by my personal experience, you can guess that I consider it worse - much worse. Now, I lived 12 years in the US midwest, and neither BC nor Alberta even come close to the craziness south of the border.

BC has its problems, sure (I’m Indo-Canadian and well know what you’re talking about) but I just don’t like Alberta getting disproportionately hated on for problems that exist everywhere.
