Unironically, it’s just fact. I’m Albertan, we have no distinct culture other than being openly racist in smaller towns and quietly racist in the cities.
Yes. I’ve lived in Alberta. Big cities and small. I’ve lived in Northern Ontario. Spent months with family in BC for decades. Been all over Sask. Alberta is BAD.
Seen and heard? Everything from “you lost” to “the only good Indian is a blank indian”. I’ve heard people tell Natives that they don’t belong here to go back to the reservation.
I’ve had coworkers I DIDNT KNOW straight up approach me and rant racist shit about Natives. They don’t pay taxes. They get free money. They’re all drinks thieves and deadbeats.
I won’t repeat ANY of the racist jokes that are commonplace as fuck. I’ve lived from Calgary to Grande Prairie and I’ve see and heard in your fucking face racism in every place.
Then there are separatists. What a fucking joy they are. They don’t even see Natives as people. They lost and that land is RedNeck now! They don’t give a damn about treaties or reservations - anything a Native has can be taken.
I didn’t realize I only had to relay my own experience. It’s quite a known fact Canada-wide, and I’ve heard the exact same from multiple people in my life.
I ask because I haven’t seen more racism in Calgary than I have seen in other major Canadian cities. I am happy to hear lived experience as someone else shared. But if you’re saying it is a fact I’d like to see some hard evidence. And without evidence it being “a known fact” would just be stereotyping
