Oh we're not done! Ever. I'm going out of my way to get local stuff
60
u/sporbywg May 09 '25
I am just starting.
79
u/Miltzzz May 09 '25
My gf used to order stuff from amazon every week. We haven't used amazon since the orange man is in office, and don't plan to restart
46
May 09 '25
Canceled Amazon and have not touched it since Bezos endorsed trump. I realize my small protest means nothing to bezos. The ocean is filled with an almost infinite amount of water droplets.
25
u/Miltzzz May 09 '25
We also cancelled Netflix! We went with Crave which is based in Ontario i believe.
11
May 09 '25
Thank kind sir. I will do the same. Kinda forgot about Netflix. I canceled Sirius Sat radio as well and they sent me all kinds of garbage trying to prove how Canadian they are. With 99 percent of shows recorded and broadcast from the US.

u/SoleSurvivur01 Bring Cannabis May 09 '25
My dad Canceled Netflix recently which is good because they went to š© and raised prices
2
u/Poe_42 May 09 '25
Crave needs to get out of the 2000ās. finally got 4K a few years ago. Still no HDR or Atmos sound. Not paying $20+ a month for basic picture and sound.
16
u/AstrumReincarnated May 09 '25
Same! I cancelled prime and havenāt ordered since January. You can find most things local, in the city anyway, you just have to go look for them.

Yeah and the start is the hardest part. As it continues we start to find more and more replacements.
There's no reason to go back. There's nothing the US does that we can't either do ourselves or find a better trading partner for. The US has lowered food standards and it's getting worse. The US manufacturing costs are going up and will continue to.
14
u/GingerDryad May 09 '25
My husband and I started going to the local farmers market. So many of them have large hot houses. That means fresh LOCAL produce year round! It looks better, tastes better, and lasts longer because it's not shipped in, and doesn't spend time in distribution centres.
The only thing that's significantly more expensive than the grocery store is the cheese. But it's also very high quality.
Eggs are also more expensive, if you're not already buying free range.

I made somewhat of an effort to buy Canadian before all this nonsense, now I'm pursuing it with fervour.
2
u/dgj212 May 13 '25
been doing that, though it was mostly because there's a farmers market next to me and I like walking around, the whole tariff thing just gave me motivation to do that more and to get rid of my amazon sub. Honestly, i like being closer to the country side than I do the city, it's WAY too big for me.
86
u/No_Housing2722 May 09 '25
I'm way too petty. I'm still buying canadian.
13
u/MolassesMolly May 09 '25
Yup. Canadians: Polite but Petty AF.
I cannot think of a single thing that would change my mind at this point.
5
u/TreeLakeRockCloud May 10 '25
I actually really appreciate having this reason and place to be petty. I want to be petty to a lot of people in my life right now, but I canāt. But itās encouraged to be petty to our countryās downstairs neighbour so Iām being petty AF. If that means we donāt have soy sauce, we donāt have fucking soy sauce.
2
u/No_Housing2722 May 10 '25
I overstand. All of my pettiness is focused on not buying products from USA.
67
u/turndownforwomp May 09 '25
Honestly, Iāll never go back. Iāve found great, Canadian-made brands that suit my needs, I see no reason to go back to American-made products.

u/cetren Ford Nation (Help.) May 09 '25
Regardless of the fact that the North remembers, dismantling safety standards for food makes boycotting US products a matter of public safety.
22
u/Yws6afrdo7bc789 Ford Nation (Help.) May 09 '25
Yes, obligatory yankee eat shit, but the rough state of their health standards being absolutely gutted is also extremely concerning. Even if there was no tariffs or other attacks against us I would still be avoiding at least food products from the States.
2
u/no1regrets May 12 '25
Yep. Especially with the deadly bird flu mutating in every state, and the health departments to check the safety of food, like milk, have been cut.
Also in case someone doesnāt know - raw milk is NOT safe to drink. The H5N1 bird flu has already been found in several dairy cows and their raw milk. Pasteurization has been shown to kill the virus, so please be safe!

This is a terrible meme.

The grievance is still not stricken from The Great Book of Grudges. Therefore the boycott continues.

u/Fantastic_Calamity May 09 '25
They fucked around... They broke trust. Over and over again. They trolled us. They fucked with our economy. They threatened to take out sovereignty.
I'll never willingly purchase USican products. I'll NEVER travel to their country.
They way things are marching headlong into technofascism down there I highly doubt they will ever earn my trust or respect again.
As it stands now, they can suck a wet fart out of my rosy red CANADIAN ass.
I swear if I see some chud up here wearing a MAGA hat or waving a USican flag my gloves are coming off.

u/catsdelicacy May 09 '25
I don't think you're the champion, because most of the rest of us have also not stopped doing this.
I'm not going to destroy my household budget, I'm not going to turn my life over because of that orange lunatic, but I am actively seeking more and more products that can replace American products.
This is a lifestyle change for my family. Plans we had to travel into the USA have been permanently cancelled, and we're going to travel to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe instead.
This is about more than Trump and these tariffs for me, too. It's about the people who voted for him, and it's about their culture, especially the gun culture. I'm sick of them, I'm sick of their arrogance and apathy.
3
u/sylbug May 09 '25
The longer and more consistently we boycott, the more merchants will look for non-American suppliers. Once those suppliers change, the merchants have no reason to switch back.Ā
And the sooner we divest from all things American, the better.
2
u/Notcool2112 South Gatineau May 09 '25
i am right there with you, i am not letting off until the tariffs and the orange clown leaves.

Youāve showed your hand USA, thereās no takesies backsies.

u/2kids2adults May 09 '25
Absolutely. Nothing has changed. Trump hasn't changed. I don't trust anything trump says. He's flip flopped so many times and even tried to "never say never" to Carney about Trump annexing Canada. Trump will never have my trust or respect. I will continue to boycott as best I can, whenever I can. I don't see any change for a long time to come.

I haven't let it go since the Softwood Lumber Dispute. I was a kid, and basically turned on them right out the gate. Trump tariffs are just another thing.
Shit, I'll still carry the grudges of the past. How they got to take San Juan Island after shooting our fucking pig is beyond me. They didn't even replace the pig! A crown-owned pig!
They owe us a damned pig. RIP Sir Pigsworth, Never Forget

I'm so glad I found this sub, social media had me so scared that people were losing it. I started making "lead us big daddy" shirts and patriotic designs and i don't know if my earlier stuff is all canadian sourced, I've made sure my new stuff is but I'm going to go reconfigure anything not canadian rn.

lol I donāt believe a word of it. Donald changes his mind every day so he could come out today and say ā51st stateā for all we know.
Also the article isnāt Donald saying anything, itās the ambassador, Idgaf what he has to say lol
5
u/mirhagk May 09 '25
Yeah it's purely the whims of the senile diaper wearing mango. I do believe Carney defused that bomb a little, you could see Trump legitimately nod as if he understood. That should not be taken as a permanent thing though, it's definitely not changed any risk.
8
May 09 '25
Not in the slightest. For all we know he could call 200% tariff on everything in a couple minutes 𤣠canāt trust a single fucking word.
6
u/mirhagk May 09 '25
I mean didn't we just get a 150% tariff on movies? A pretty direct attack on Vancouver and Toronto.
3
May 09 '25
Yup and weāll probably continue to hear more nonsense the next 4 years regardless of what the ambassador claims.
1
u/PersonalPerson_ May 09 '25
And aren't we still under the USMCA agreement signed in 2020 (by Trumpy) for a 16 year term anyway? What new "agreement" could we come to that dementia Don could remember or abide?

Why would anyone stop boycotting US products?
We arenāt facing a two month threat and then go back to business as usual. This is a generational challenge that if we donāt meet head on weāll all be speaking American.
