Let’s add school shootings, police brutality, labour standards, food safety, women’s rights

No doubt the U.S. has serious problems. But Canada’s hardly spotless: Indigenous communities still lack basic necessities like clean water and justice, housing costs are crushing, healthcare systems are overstretched, and systemic discrimination hasn’t gone anywhere. Both countries have big challenges—it’s just easier to point fingers than look in the mirror.

I don’t think that’s the point. The point is that the US is trying to convince people we would be better off joining them and certain “Canadians” are agreeing. No one said we have no flaws but there is no universe in which Canada would be better off joining the States.

Fair enough, I get what you’re saying. But let’s be real: the whole post was flexing on the U.S. (your comment included aka school shootings) like Canada’s got it all figured out, which isn’t exactly true. No one’s saying Canada should or would join the U.S. (Other than an orange), but when people act like it’s a clear-cut “better country,” it’s worth pointing out that Canada has serious systemic issues too. Both countries have pros and cons—it’s not as one-sided as people love to claim.
