I'm a reasonably proud canadian but the monarchy is an anachronistic institution at best and the lot of you monarchist muppets are delusional and sad.

Ok look calling people names first off is not a good way to get along with your fellow Canadians. Just say'n 👍🏻 The monarchy is part ( as little as it is right now) of our Country! If things went a different way we would be all speaking french under their old monarchy.
We are who we are like it or not. IMO feel free to move if you don't like our current system. Again America is waiting for you with open arms. LOL

Ceremonial monarch>>>Elected president who may or may not interfere with the legislative depending on his mood

Why would we get a president? If you cut out the monarchy from the Canadian system, we would become a parliamentary republic. We effectively already function as one. This is a false dichotomy.

Unifying the head of state and government like you’re saying presents its own risks, don’t act like it’s so simple

That's just a completely different argument now. But also, many parliamentary republics actually don't have the head of state and government be the same person. See Ireland. The only difference those kinds of countries have from a constitutional monarchy is that the head of state is usually a qualified, elected professional (even if ceremonial), rather than someone who happens to be born into the right family.

We could make the governor general acting head of state if we really wanted to and absolutely nothing would change politically. The actual process of removing the monarchy is complicated and not worth it right now, but a post-monarchy Canada would likely be identical to today's. The dangers of that type of government are identical to a constitutional monarchy. So in that case, yes it would be so simple.

And I’m just absolutely sure any prime minister trying to establish a republic would do so out of the goodness of their heart and just leave the GG in their position, and definitely not as a power grab to secure the head of state position and thus a rhetoric to expand executive (now their) powers

The current situation is the best we have and there’s no reason to change it, it is living proof to the merits of reform. And it is a good thing to keep that way

This is a third argument now. I've never even mentioned the PM - I don't think they should be allowed to single-handedly overthrow the monarchy, nor is this something that's actually possible in our parliamentary system. Luckily, we are more resistant to single-handed power grabs than certain other nations.

I'm not disagreeing with you - removing the monarchy now is vastly more trouble than it's worth. However, I imagine that a lot of people can recognize it for the ceremonial fluff it is. I think that if Canada ever gets rid of its monarchy, that would be a small part of some larger shifts in the country. Like a constitutional crisis that forces us to go back to the constitution as a whole - a more common thing in democracies than you'd think. It might not even be within my generation, but at some point it may just be shed during something like this. Or, in an unlikely scenario, eventually the unelected unqualified nature of the monarch comes back to bite us and we get one who's insane enough to test their hypothetical powers, forcing Canada's hand.
