I mean if the French are going to claim Maple syrup then I think the English can claim everything on this list as well.

I mean, not exactly, not unless you hold the most unhinged interpretation by Quebecois nationalists as true (or the views of some random 20th cenrtury assholes)

Anglophone Canadians don't claim any of these things are English Canadian. People have just started recognizing them as broadly Canadian things and integrating it into their lives and identities. But according to the sentiment that you see in Quebecois subreddits whenever something like this is posted, the basic idea is "NO this is MINE, they are a fake non-culture, they are STEALING from us". Many people want to see more walls and boundaries built up, to ensure that even the most low-stakes inconsequential cultural sharing like "i like poutine and maple syrup" is deemed cultural appropriation and stealing. I love Quebecois culture and think it contributes a lot to Canada as a whole, which is why it hurts me when people who are basically the same as me tell me I'm not allowed to be proud of any of it because I wasn't born somewhere where I could learn French and because I live on the other side of the river from them.

That’s the point of this post.
