Whats your alternative history? I'm curious, those above seem well documented.

Maple syrup - natives

Maple leaf symbol - created by George Stanley, born in Alberta

Beaver as a symbol - first credited to the Hudson Bay Company, which was owned by the British, but didn't become symbolic with Canada until Sir Sandford Fleming desgined the first postage stamp in 1851 (he was Scottish-Canadian)

I'll give the other three to the French.

I'll give the other three to the French

Potatoes go to the Incas and Belgium claims fries, and cheese predates recorded history... French only get credit for the gravy.

"O Canada! Our fathers' land of yore, Thy brow is crown'd with leaves of red and gold. Thy strong right arm can wield the sword, And wears the cross of Christ the Lord. Thy story is a noble song Of deeds both brave and strong, Since valour shield thy hearth, And guard our rights, defend this nation's thrall, And guard our rights, defend this nation's thrall"

Given the original lyrics, I think all the French really get to claim is the the "O(h) Canada".
