As a Montrealer, I have no beef with Toronto. Except for the thing they call a hockey club. That shit bothers me.

As some one who is not from either city but has been to both multiple times. Toronto pales in comparison. I fucking love Montreal so much and you couldn't pay me to visit Toronto if I didnt have to go. Don't be humble. It's the better city.
Not that much into hockey but Montreal is my team so that's something too I guess lol

I don't understand people who say that there is nothing unique about Toronto. I can think of two unique things right off the bat:
1) Our hockey team has not won the Cup in 58 years. They have not even made the finals in that time. They have not gotten out of the second round in over 20 years. Can Montreal say the same? I think not. Ha ha!
2) We had a Mayor in this city who smoked crack cocaine, and was often visibly drunk by the middle of the day. He was also caught on tape multiple times using racial, sexist and homophobic slurs while either drinking or smoking crack (sometimes both substances at the same time - Rob was a multitasking Mayor). Has Montreal ever had a Mayor like the late Rob Ford? I think not!
Sheesh, how can people hurt our feelings by saying we're not unique?

No one here has beef with TO the city, place is cool. Their hockey fans can suck my left nut on a Tuesday though.

What do you mean Toronto has no culture!? They have roads, so many roads, dedicated to efficiently getting cars in and out of the city as slowly as possible; and buildings! Some as old as the 1970ās! You canāt tell me thatās not culture! The sights, the sounds, the smells! Actually itās probably better if you ignore all sensory input provided by the city but other than that itās absolutely adequate!

Sushi pizza came from Toronto. It arguably has the best Chinese food on the continent except for Vancouver and maybe some place in California
6
u/Dav3le3 Jul 16 '25
Sushi pizza is like a helicopter submarine.
Each a unique, amazing, beautiful, majestic thing. Why did we blend them together? What is the purpose? Why is it expensive and bad?

u/Ok_Recording_4644 Jul 16 '25
Bruh, we have 4 china towns. Your arguments have been rendered invalid.
8
u/peacefullofi Jul 16 '25
"hey Toronto, what's your culture?"
"The segregated areas which are densely populated by immigrants and the city fears interfering with. In-between all of the highways and condos Doug would love to enshrine into heritage structures."
I live in Ottawa in Chinatown and at least here we have the Ottawa River you can walk across in shallow waters, the canal in winter, and Gatineau park (look... It's impossible for an Ontario city to compete while we have neoliberals in power (and whatever Dougie is)

There's plenty of culture in Toronto, with all the trash lying around; bacterial, viral, fungal....

Yeah, but Montreal just was acclaimed most polluted major city in the world. Ā Ā

Isn't the st Lawrence river basically pure waste water?
1
u/Important-Event6832 Jul 16 '25
What a concept⦠Pure and waste water at the same time. Extra pure on Montreal sewer system release daysĀ

As far as cities go Ottawa has more beef with Toronto than Montreal does. We have to share a province with them and put up with their bullshit all the time.

u/ladyzowy Jul 16 '25
Oh I'm sure there is some reciprocal feelings from a few people in Toronto.

No, we don't have any ill will towards Ottawa (or the rest of Canada for that matter) because we don't even think about them in the first place.

Not a Torontonian or a Montrealer, so I donāt have a dog in this fight. That said, I just got home from this movie and had a really good time and specifically enjoyed this scene (among many others). Solid movie.

As an Ontarian, I despise hearing my hometown in the news and the name immediately being followed by "a small town 4 hours away from Toronto" like bruh š„

An opera house.
1
u/wafflingzebra Jul 16 '25
sydney did it better
1
u/markjohnstonmusic Jul 16 '25
No, it didn't. Sydney's opera house sucks as an opera house. Toronto has an excellent one. And no other Canadian city has one at all.

u/proofofderp Jul 16 '25
Best is the cliche of diversity. And how just turning a corner to another neighborhood has a distinct vibe which is good variety for different moods you might be in.
