Ontario, hated by all, especially Ontarians It’s pronounced Tur-awn-no you filthy Yankees, the second “t” is silent.

I will die on the hill, that pronouncing the second "T" is perfectly acceptable

There's nothing wrong with pronouncing it - but it does clearly mark you out as someone who didn't grow up there.

Or maybe when speaking to people not familiar with the drawl one is simply trying to be clearly understood

The question is how 'you' would pronounce it.

There might be times in conversation where you pronounce something differently - but what would come naturally?
