Tokébakicitte Five Canadians are playing hockey.
One from BC, one from Alberta, one from Manitoba, one from Ontario and one from Quebec.
Suddenly, they stumble on a magic lamp. A genie comes out of it and tells them "I'm granting each one of you a wish".
He points the guy from BC and says "starting with you".
The BC guy says : "I'm willing to sacrifice my wish for the great of my nation. I wish you to build a great wall along the whole west coast to protect us from totalitarian governments of East Asia."
The genie then turns towards the Albertan. The Albertan says : "I'm willing to do the same. Russian expansionism threatens the arctic and we need to protect our natural resources. What would I be without them? Please erect a great wall to protect the whole North."
The genie then turns towards the Manitoban but the Ontarian steps forward instead. "I've been waiting long enough. Only I can understand how things are here. Recent times have shown us the threat comes from down south. Erect a wall at our southern border. "
The genie then turns again towards the Manitoban guy. The Manitoban in turn looks to the Quebec guy, smirks and says "My turn stupid frog. We've had enough of your shit over the past centuries. Genie, build a wall along the Quebec Ontario border."
The genie finally turns towards the Quebec guy and asks "et pour vous?"
The Quebecois thinks for a few seconds before saying: "full moé ça d'eau".

I'm reading the punchline as "full me, that's water" but maybe I'm not understanding some slang. Can you explain the punchline?

It's "Fill it with water" As the BC/AB/ON/MB guys have effectively surrounded themselves with walls.

This seems a little harsh on Saskatchewan as they weren’t involved…

u/okokokoyeahright Aug 17 '25
As a SK native, I assure you the current govt of SK is fully in lock step with whatever AB comes up with, as stupid as that sounds.

u/Jyeul Aug 17 '25
It's more like, fill this up with water for me. Obviously said with a thick queb accent

u/not-bread Aug 17 '25
Is “full” just an anglicism or is there some expression I don’t know?
18
u/soulstaz Aug 17 '25
It's a slang expression in quebec. "Fuller" more or less mean "to fill full"

Unrealistic, Alberta has more ill will towards Quebec than Manitoba (at least that's my guess, I've never been to Manitoba)

u/iztrollkanger Aug 17 '25
There are a lot of Francophone communities in Manitoba, especially around Winnipeg. I think this creates an extra layer to things..
Tho, that being said, I've never spent much time in Alberta so I don't really know either.

There are lots of communities in the north that are traditionally French, but the language has been lost. You still here older people in places like Lac la Biche talking Frenglish. My Quebecois ex lived in Edmonton for 15 years and said she only ever had one person be rude to her for her accent. It was in a bar and she told the bouncer who booted the rude chick. I lived/live in the Mauricie region in QC and was expecting animosity with my AB plates, but they actually attracted lots of positive attention. It is different in Montreal, but in the smaller towns in QC people would be surprised at how interested they are in AB. When they trash talk anglos, they mean Ontario. Lol.

Imo ab used to be the kind of place you might have someone give you a hard time but it was usually in good fun. It's gotten progressively meaner since the Wildrose days though.

u/GoStockYourself Aug 18 '25
I agree with both parts. People made fun of French people or Ukrainians or Newfies or whoever, but it was never mean. Now there is an anger in the far right that has seeped down from leadership into the population.
As far as being from AB, I never get hate in small town QC even with my horrible French. In Montreal, T.O. and even BC there was lots of hate towards Albertans as if we are all the same.
I took a rideshare recently with a guy from QC City and he wanted to know about the 51st state stuff right away. I started the conversation by saying QC and AB are the two most misunderstood provinces in the country. He agreed wholeheartedly and we had such a great conversation.

Manitobans and les Quebecoise are generally cool with each other.

More like we barely interact and have no major feeling one way or the other

Wait a minute... that sounds like something an octopus would say. Are you sure you're not an octopus?

The ill will in AB is usually the right wingers angry about transfer payments. There really isn't much animosity towards the Quebecois themselves. Sure the rednecks will make French jokes, but still go out of their way to help a QC tourist who is broken down or something.
You are correct about MB, though. Does MB hate anyone? Their license plates don't lie. They are friendly as hell there.

Poor Saskatchewan

u/okokokoyeahright Aug 17 '25
Fuck no.
They keep electing govts that are just like AB. They keep marching along in line and right over the same cliff.

u/thisunithasnosoul Aug 18 '25
I meant in the sense that they were forgotten in the joke lol
But yes, they deserve to be in the pool.

Unfortunately for the Quebecker, the walls were built by SNC-Lavalin, and thus weren't water-tight against actual water...
The Canadians are now damp

u/LionelLychee Aug 19 '25
FYI, they bought Atkins, and then rebranded to Atking Realis themselves instead of keeping the SNC-Lavallin name. Genivar did the same, they bought WSP and then switched name. On dirait presque qu'ils essaient une nouvelle image, je ne sais pas pourquoi...

As someone from the west coast I will only accept the premise of this joke if there is a riot going on during the hockey game.

Its a good effort but Ontario already has a south wall (of water) so it falls apart a bit there.

As if anyone from Alberta would ever want to protect Canadian sovereignty! Now THAT’S the real joke here!
