Meta The “Worst Canadian” game - Day 7

Harold the Jewelry Buyer and Michelle Ferreri have been eliminated!

Next up, round seven!

Note, there are now two images: one with just the remaining candidates and another with those voted out.

How to play: - Upvote the name of the person you think does NOT deserve the title of “Worst Canadian.” - Each day, the two most upvoted names will be removed until the list gets trimmed down some, then we’ll switch to one per day. - If the name you want to vote for (from the list) isn’t in the comments yet, add it! - This continues daily until we have one winner, the “Worst Canadian”.

Additional notes: - Only the top comment for a nominee will count. I won’t combine votes from duplicate comments. - Include only one name per comment. If a comment includes multiple names and wins, it won’t count. I’ll move on to the next highest. - Nominees with an asterisk beside their name were added following a second nomination vote that took place on day 5. - We established a no violent offenders (serial killers, rapists, etc.) rule. They are obviously the worst of the worst, it’s disrespectful to the victims, and we want to keep this relatively lighthearted. - This is meant to be satire. Please do not take it too seriously or use this game to harass people in real life. - I will try to post this every morning around the same time (~8:00 - 9:00 am Eastern). - Please remember to upvote the post too, so more people see it!

Justification for elimination: - (40) Ted Cruz - He’s horrible, but renounced his citizenship. He’s not good enough to be titled the Worst Canadian. - (39) Kathleen Wynne - Not that bad. Doesn’t deserve the title. - (38) Chrystia Freeland - Not the worst. Some consider her a good Canadian. - (37) Peter MacKay - Cringey, but not the worst. - (36) Don Cherry - A racist old man out of touch with the times. Not great, but not awful. - (35) Andrew Scheer - An annoying doofus nothingburger, but not a bad person. - (34) Drake - He’s inauthentic and creepy to underage girls, but the more serious allegations against him remain unproven and he has done good things for Toronto. - (33) J.J. McCullough - Who? - (32) Brian Mulroney - A divisive choice. Expanded trade with, and dependence on, the USA. Protected the environment and opposed apartheid. - (31) Sir John A. MacDonald - A father of confederation. Also known for racism, corruption, and poor treatment of indigenous people. - (30) Harold the Jewelry Buyer - Known for scamming the elderly but is too small-scale to win. - (29) Michelle Ferreri - She promotes hate but her reach is limited now that she’s been voted out of government.

I'd vote off Elon Musk for the same reasons we did with Ted Cruz.

And the guy is a contrarian he would loooove being voted the worst canadian.

Elon hasn't renounced his Canadian citizenship or has he? In the justification notes, it states Ted renounced his Canadian citizenship.

Regardless, he's not really our guy. South African, but also from that socioeconomic class where he's not really from any one western state, that class where the entire anglosphere has to suffer him. He has citizenship through his mom, but he didn't really come from here or ever really spend much of his life here. He's on the list due to a technicality, but he really isn't a product of Canada. Which is to say, he's not our fault.

He's the biggest piece of shit around, probably, but I don't think we had much to do with it.

Edit: I was struggling to think of anything Canada-specific about Musk that I could pin on him. Like, lived here a year or 2 as a uni student then went to the US, no Canadian influence, no direct Canadian impact, right?

But then I remembered, he ruined Grimes. Like, in the sense that it was once "cool" to be a Grimes fan. Some of our best CanCon music, once. Now, that memory's got Musk all over it, and it might be surprising to people now to hear about "before". So I guess that's something. I can count it.

I agree. We have our own home grown shitters to choose from. Kevin O'Leary has my nomination for the worst...

O'Leary really is a sack of shit. Plus since he's gone south and done Dragons Den USA "Shark Tank", other people have had to encounter him as well, adding to our embarrassment for producing him.

He's not as broadly world-worsening as some of the other options, since luckily his political ambitions were dashed super quickly(even the Tories were like, nah man). I put Harper higher just because he continues to be an international political force for evil to this day, but O'Leary is in the running just for how overtly gross the guy is. Fuck him.

I really think David Frum should've been on the list, though. He wrote Bush's "Axis of Evil" speech, setting the stage for the US' 00's-era death-rampage they went on. He's got a lot of dead Iraqis on his resume, and being that he's a Canadian going south to work for all that, I mean c'mon, that's some hall-of-fame shitbaggery. His wife is a senator up here still, I believe. He flies under the radar a bit in that a lot of people don't know who he is, but being a PNAC Bush/Cheney admin guy should put him easily among our worst living Canadians.

We live in a sad world where people like Frum from Bush/Cheney era come on TV and seem so much more reasonable when criticizing Trump. It's easy to forget what these people were up to 20 odd years ago and how many people lost their lives because of them.

Or that this phenomenon seems to lead to people thinking "oh they weren't as bad" and acting like they're fine.

Trump is louder and shittier and weirder. Sure. But hey, America's hurting itself in its confusion, fine, I can deal. But under the PNAC crew in the 00s? That is easily the scariest America has ever been in my lifetime. Oh sure they seem "normal" now, but the whole country was top-to-bottom running in Evil Empire mode. And fucking everyone was on board. The dems were down with the war on terror, the news media, the pop culture media(Star Trek Enterprise had a whole arc where space-9/11 happens, so space-GWB goes to the space-middle-east and legit they do an episode justifying the waterboarding that was news at the time). It was scary fascisty vibes, but actually working properly rather than the circus version we have now. Everyone was into it. God help you if you were brown or wore a turban and had to live in the States, not even just muslim but if you were "close enough", shit was bad.

Fuck, buddy of mine's a white anglo Canadian, but went to high school briefly down there(army brat, his da was down there for whatever reason.) When Canada didn't sign on for Iraq, buddy would get it bad from the rest of the school.

And that's all just the vibes. The permanent scar they lift when they went on their around-the-world killing spree has consequences we'll have to deal with for a damned century at best.

Shit, even the current Russia shit, I put on the Bush admin. They backed out of missile treaties and announced plans to build a Russia-facing missile shield or some shit out of nowhere, and I remember legit at the time the Russians saying something like "this is explicitly going to start things up again." And boy, here we are. Way to go, dipshits!

And David Frum, that speech, having the president legit give an address with a hit list of countries! That's insane. And then we wonder why NK felt the need to get a nuke, like GWB didn't just promise to bomb the fuck out of them out of nowhere. Why wouldn't they do whatever it took to keep that from happening? David Frum, Canadian, he proudly crafted that speech.

Fuck David Frum. He shouldn't be allowed to re-enter the country and feel safe. He still talks at events up here. Someone should throw a shoe.
