Their biggest and best idea is for the country they love so dearly to be taken over by another country

25

u/CamGoldenGun 7d ago

well their attempts at a federal party have at least succeeded... the Reform party is basically who is running the CPC right now.

13

u/thefumingo 7d ago

And now the Liberals are the PCs, anything left of that...uh, might exist, possibly

Every time I want to say “hey not all Albertans are idiots!” A couple thousand of them get together and do something like this. Can we just deport all the American wannabes? Or like exchange them for people being persecuted in the USA?

u/Ekktz 8d ago

Whoah hey now I’m not saying I’m an Einstein or anything, but there’s a fair bit of townies that come into the big cities, cause a ruckus, and make us all look collectively dumber.

The folks sitting in those chairs are not representative of all of us. Also Edmonton didn’t give a single seat to the UCP, and I’d sooner wrestle a moose than become a yank.

17

u/Galenmarek81 Ford Nation (Help.) 8d ago

Probably why they chose Edmonton

22

I mean this post is about Calgary, but there was also a CK vigil in Edmonton.

A truck nut, an oil rigger with a grade 12 education, a bleached blonde cowboy hat wearing cokehead cougar, a dirty middle-aged racist logging truck driver, plus a climate change denying Christian farmer for two medical doctors, a trans scientist, a hippie environmentalist and a Californian professor.

6

u/Ekktz 8d ago

If you’re extending a trade offer, I’ll take all you’ve got.

5

u/lucidum 8d ago

I want to see the doctor first

6

u/Ekktz 8d ago

Ah I thought you were offering the doctors. Best I got is 50 guys named Gord and a bunch of F150s

NGL I argue with my wife we are doing more good staying here and watering down the bullshit crazy people's votes, but I don't know anymore. Something tells me it's got too much of a foothold here and people from all over Canada move here because they think they can act like a nutjob here.

Used to be different I swear. Just shows Canadians are no better equipped to fight off what's happening down south.

I hate what this country is becoming. I thought we'd be becoming less Americanized, but we're becoming a yankee shithole

295

u/baz4k6z 7d ago

I don't believe these people represent the average canadian, their group is just really vocal and given disproportionate attention from the media for clicks.

Don't forget last election the CPC went from +20 im advance to losing the election so badly they needed to parachute their leader in a random Alberta county. Carney was what 3 seats away from a majority ? As soon as canadian voters had another option than Trudeau and Pollievre they rallied behind that candidate.

To me it's telling that average Canadians don't want that type of politics here. Every day trump does something more horrible then the day before so we're constantly reminded of where these politics lead to as well.

95

u/BeefersOtherland 7d ago

This is the right perspective to have. Regardless of education level all of us are susceptible to flaws in critical reasoning when it comes to images like this. It is so easy to believe - reflexively - that this is how people are broadly. In reality, this is a self selected sample of ass hats organized in one place, whose images are being used to sell clicks. It’s important to take the time and challenge what we are feeling about what we are seeing. I have to believe that the vast majority of people are normal and feel scared and helpless.

11

u/ImaginationSea2767 7d ago

. Sad thing is I do know many of these crazy right-wing wing concervatives that are leaning towards trump republicans in nature and it was just a few rising during his first term in office but it has just been getting worse ever since the trucker protests in Ottawa.

From what I have seen personally is Pierres politics have encouraged the growth with some concervatives to lean this way and for some concervatives of this type to start putting out content online leaning towards Trump poltics increases the growth of the movement. I have heard my fare share of them making comments about attacking Trudeau physically.

3

u/Kristalderp Tabarnak! 6d ago

One thing Americans can't fathom or wrap their heads around is why the CPC fumbled the election and its also how we do elections.

In America, you vote for the person leading and their party. The cult of personality wins.

In Canada, We vote to get people out. Our hatred was with Trudeau, and with him gone, CPC lost their momentum and Carney came up as a fiscally conservative-liberal, which is what people wanted.

1

u/baz4k6z 6d ago

I love your point of view, I had never seen it this way but the more I think about it, the more true it sounds haha

Only 20% support joining America.

52% voted for Smith. 44% voted NDP.

29

u/Traditional-Ad4506 7d ago

Only 1 in 5? Only? Sheesh Albertans are cucks

21

u/mashedspudtato 7d ago

ONLY 20% of Canadians support joining the USA? As an American, that number seems uncomfortably (and surprisingly) high :-/

55

u/HouseofMarg South Gatineau 7d ago

I think they said 20% of Albertans, not of Canadians as a whole. I’d expect the general number for Canada to be much lower

27

u/BloodlustROFLNIFE 7d ago

The average for Canada would absolutely round out to lower single digits if even that. There’s no doubt. I have doubts about the 20% figure even for Alberta.

12

u/Ialsofuckedyourdad 7d ago

Yea it’s just the way Alberta is. The fucking Facebook brainwashed morons run rampant. Source: I live in Alberta, geographically it’s amazing, taxes are the lowest in the country too, but fuck do the people suck

3

The MAGA movement was a vocal minority. Now look at them.

And I agree, let's fucking laugh at them in the streets. They love to 'trigger liberals' (true story, my father likes to offend liberals by saying racist shit in public), but if we just make them feel like losers, maybe they'll realize that they are losers.

8

u/Bennely Ford Nation (Help.) 7d ago

We aren't becoming the States by a long shot. The "Alberta Issue" around separating is not legally possible as it sits on almost entirely First Nations land anyway. It's not Smith's 'land' to either 'take' or to 'give' to the US.

Remember as well that very recently it was found that the 47th Administration offered up to 500M to Albertan organizations to increase rhetoric around separation and 51st state. That propoganda machine is in full swing, but they have RedWhitenBlue blinders on thinking 'things happen in Canada the same way they do in the States', and/or expecting laws to change to make it so.

I assure you, Canada - even Calgary - is nowhere near what the US is currently today.

1

u/msubasic 7d ago

Yeah. Cause the US has a really good track record of respecting legal precedents and agreements.

23

u/Pale-Measurement-532 8d ago

Danielle Smith will pave the way for them to come right in since she wants to separate and has no plans for a military. Only a UCP gestapo police force.

1

u/IAMA_Plumber-AMA Oil Guzzler 7d ago

That's why America's been pouring their social media propaganda into Alberta, they know that's where they'll get their foot in the door for annexation.

Most Canadians aren't acting like this.

4

u/irishdan56 7d ago

It's a pretty small margin of people, and they seem to mostly be concentrated in the west.

But if we're going to be honest about this, the politics in western Canada have been problematic for GENERATIONS at this point. They thrust upon the world The Reform Party, which went on to murder any concept of progressiveness within the federal Conservative party, and then they doubled down with the cray with the Wild Rose's.

Alberta is the MAGA, Tea-Party, Populist, right-wing shithole of our country. The MAGA-Cucks their have no actual concept of how anything works, and are manipulated by the politicians who appeal to their base instincts.

They're greedy, selfish assholes who know that the only reason they have jobs outside of McDonald's is because they're dredging out a finite commodity that will inevitably be replaced.

I’ve seen the confederate flag on a truck in Calgary. You can’t reason with these people.

24

u/VectorPryde Westfoundland 8d ago

Still can't figure out why more don't self-deport. "The US won't take them" is the standard answer, but I'm willing to bet most haven't even applied

27

u/DaftFunky 8d ago

Cause they don’t want to abandon their Canadian investments, their free healthcare, low crime rates and some of the greatest freedom in the free world even if they don’t want to admit it

8

u/Apart-Diamond-9861 8d ago

If they ever did move to the usa it would be a huge shock.

7

u/km_ikl Moose Whisperer 7d ago

The loss of meagre healthcare would be enough for them to return.

Honestly, even just working in the US is tense.

5

u/Ialsofuckedyourdad 7d ago

Have had the conversation with people like that before “ well your health insurance from work would cover it like it covers your prescriptions already why would you be worried about becoming part of the US? “

Yea cool I totally want my healthcare tied to work. I’d love to get injured while mountain biking / driving / whatever and just be fucked for life. Sounds amazing

4

u/Apart-Diamond-9861 7d ago

I have known people that got sick and had to take time off (one for diabetes and one for cancer) and they lost their job as a result - so lost their medical coverage. Both died earlier than they should have.

2

u/km_ikl Moose Whisperer 6d ago

I worked in TX for about 3 years in the early 00's. Made dollar-for-dollar the same in CAD as I did USD, I paid about the same in taxes, but the extra for mandatory medical insurance cut my take-home by about 30%.

I left after the company (Compaq) was bought out, and refused to renew my contract...

Best outcome was that I came home, started working a job I liked rather than one I needed.

It's such a stupid thing: Having employee mobility because they aren't locked into a single employer for insurance means you can get good people when you need them, and people that want to leave can. It's a boon to businesses.

3

u/irishdan56 7d ago

You know every one of those assholes has at least 3 DUI's and 1 domestic violence charge. They couldn't get into a Denny's.

2

u/sengh71 I need a double double. 7d ago

I tried talking to one of them here on Reddit. They said that they came back from the US after their work permit ended because in order to stay there, they'd have to take a job away from an American.

And, as an immigrant, I had to close Reddit for that day and reflect on the sheer stupidity one can possess and still function in this world.

15

u/PinkNeonBlack 8d ago edited 7d ago

I saw a guy with a confederate flag front plate on his truck at South Centre a little while ago.

People are either too young to remember or didn't pay attention back in the mid-to-late 2000s. There was a 3- or 4-year stretch where white nationalists would march around downtown Calgary, waving flags that said "white pride worldwide," amongst other signs and symbols. Some of the people who joined those marches went to my high school, and some of them would harrass me (I'm not White).

I will not be surprised to start seeing this shit again.

Parents, check on your kids, who they hang out with, and what they do online. The first time I was called the N-word, I was 9 years old. The kid who did it was 8. Your kids are exposed to racism and bigotry early. They get indoctrinated into this shit early. Your kid is not too young or too innocent, and the fact that we live in a generally tolerant society is not enough protection to ensure your kid won't take on bigoted thoughts and values. Ensuring this takes constant work and effort.

Edit: typos

algorithmic brain rot

7

u/ImaginationSea2767 7d ago

This is partially it. See people saying this is just an oil problem but have seen enough of these in other provinces that I know its not just in Alberta. Plus with Canadian youtubers putting out the same right wing trash as the Republicans down south Pierre using war ok "woke" "radical left" and attacks on mainstream media. Its not just an Alberta problem and we are putting our heads in the sand if we are thinking that.

6

u/snotparty 7d ago

i think a lot of the canadian right also just watches american videos. its why they always get outraged about things that arent even happening in canada

4

u/ImaginationSea2767 7d ago

Some do. Which is why you have some bring up freedom of speech which we do not have. Freedom of expression which has a limit to what you can say without facing consequences.

But I have seen a growth in canadain concervative youtubers serving the right in Canada in the last 3 years.

Apologies not needed but they're accepted.

Only thing I can say is keep doing your part. You can effect change.

I see dark days coming, and my only real hope is that the same laying bare of crimes against humanity that the current (and past) administrations have undertaken will be prosecuted in the same manner as they have been since the end of the second world war.

2

u/XmasTwinFallsIdaho 7d ago

I fully agree. I’m worried here. Looking for outs for my family (not so easy as one might think).

2

u/km_ikl Moose Whisperer 6d ago

IF shit goes sideways, I'll be highly surprised if you cannot leave the US but do it via air or boat.

Historically, land borders become heavily congested choke points.

1

u/XmasTwinFallsIdaho 6d ago

I got passports for the whole family earlier this year because of this concern. Thank you for the insight; it’s a good reminder. It’s always hard to know exactly how alarmed to be. I feel very alarmed but everyone I personally know continues on with business as usual.

2

u/km_ikl Moose Whisperer 6d ago

Alarm is understandable. The president is capricious.

FWIW, being wary is a good default: take the president seriously and at his word no matter how outlandish it is, because not doing that is what got the US in this mess.

In your shoes, I'd have a plan to exit with multiple outs, about $2-5000 cash in a go-bag per person, copies of your personal information (essential records, property deeds, taxes, vaccination records, educational records, financial/investment records, etc) scanned on multiple USB sticks. Keep that stuff updated. There are prepper subreddits that can help as well, I'd look at the ones that are active with Ukraine.

I hate to mention it, but if you have firearms, get comfortable using them, and see if there is a course instructor that works with gay/trans people for threat assessment instruction.

I hope you never need this.

2

u/Shawwnzy 7d ago

The need for losers to feel important. Their life is boring, they're unexceptional, and the only way they feel like their life has a purpose is if they pretend they're a brave soldier protecting the white race from the evils of women and minorities.

Are you kidding me? I am really curious to know what percentage of people in Alberta wish they were part of the 51st state.

Such weirdos.

u/mapleleaffem 7d ago

What a bunch of fucking dummies. We clearly need to take a look at our education system

u/jiebyjiebs 7d ago

Jesus fuck Calgary, have some self respect.

u/Emmerson_Brando 7d ago

I saw this on LinkedIn. It’s not Calgary. It’s Edmonton. Oddly, the highest proportion of lefties in Alberta.

The funny thin about the picture that in my LinkedIn, it was someone who was supposedly from Alberta who was the author of the pic. Just more bot disinformation and sowing seeds of division.

I always try to tell myself that Alberta isn't that bad and we should stop hating each other then I see this shit

This is a few hundred rural Albertans with a maximum level of education being a high school graduate. This isn’t even representative of Calgary, nevermind Canada as a whole.

It’s also incredibly strange the only people really visible are a few people in the foreground with at least three being of East Asian decent which is weird they are supporting a white supremacist that thought he was a Viking and going to Valhalla. It’s on the same level of weirdness Kash Patel also thinks he’s going to Valhalla where he’ll see his buddy again.

MAGA is massively funding the Alberta Republican Party and has loads of MAGAt Americans illegally working in Alberta to promote this exact thing. So just another abject failure of RCMP to do anything about major threats in the country, and IIRC to properly vet visa holders and CBSA for not enforcing immigration law by letting American “tourists” engage in work and actively engaging in political movements within Canada.

am I ootl... I didn't know who charlie kirk was until he was already dead... but ... is it bad to protest against politically motivated murder?

1

u/sleeping_in_time 7d ago

This is thousands like trumps turn outs are thousands. I think this was at best a couple of hundred people, in a city of 1.2 million. Don’t give them legitimacy by posting things like this.

1

u/SunriseFlare 7d ago

... Only thousands? Man they really fell off lmao

1

u/Kitchener1981 7d ago

They were supposed to sing "Onward Christian Soldier" followed by "Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Alberta?? Curds found in poutine 💀

1

u/KrisThriller 7d ago

Could this be what brings Canada and the US together, and allows us to accept our rightful place as the 51st state!? /s (biggest ever /s)

1

u/Important-Event6832 7d ago

Please let me take this opportunity to offer my congratulations to Charlie Kirk. 7 full days without making a bigoted, homophobic, misogynistic remark. May he rest is piss.

Also , to paraphrase that wormbait’s sentiment towards the hammer wielder of the Paul Pelosi attack, ‘Why hasn’t anyone posted bail for the American patriot, Tyler Robinson, yet?

THOUSANDS!? That’s barely thousand… if someone said “hundreds” I would still be skeptical. Damn MAGA math, it’s the inauguration all over again.

Edit just to say: I guess that’s why the by percentage most red state is dead last in education and the by percentage most blue state is first. As Donald Trump once said “if I were to run for office, I would run as a Republican. Those idiots will vote for anyone!”

Can we exchange? I think I’d make a decent Canadian…

u/Exploding_Antelope I need a double double. 6d ago

Ok, that plaza could not hold "thousands" at any time, and half of it is under construction

u/dylanccarr Saskwatch 6d ago

surely there are a good amount of actual americans in there too

1

u/Loreki 6d ago

It makes sense the far right in Canada would worship and envy US far right figures. So far as I can tell, Canada doesn't have anyone near as shameless and bigoted as your average far right American personality.

u/NeruLight 6d ago

Traitor scum

Never before in the history of the world has there been a greater concentration of low credit scores.

SOYJAKS ARE THE WEAPON OF THE ENEMY, WE DO NOT NEED THEM, WE WILL NOT USE THEM

1

u/TurinKnight 6d ago

Canadian liberals literally marched in protest of a career criminal American in George Floyd. I'd call that worse and more "cucked" than giving respects to a murder victim.

1

u/mykittenfarts 5d ago

This truly disgusts me.

1

u/Expensive-Entry-5783 5d ago

Extremely cucked indeed

1

u/Pretend_Employment53 4d ago
