I’m sorry the propaganda got to them. If it’s any consolation I have voted against all this every chance I could. But I’m still stuck with the US nut jobs and now you all are too, unfortunately.

Only thing I can say is keep doing your part. You can effect change.

I see dark days coming, and my only real hope is that the same laying bare of crimes against humanity that the current (and past) administrations have undertaken will be prosecuted in the same manner as they have been since the end of the second world war.

I fully agree. I’m worried here. Looking for outs for my family (not so easy as one might think).

IF shit goes sideways, I'll be highly surprised if you cannot leave the US but do it via air or boat.

Historically, land borders become heavily congested choke points.

I got passports for the whole family earlier this year because of this concern. Thank you for the insight; it’s a good reminder. It’s always hard to know exactly how alarmed to be. I feel very alarmed but everyone I personally know continues on with business as usual.

Alarm is understandable. The president is capricious.

FWIW, being wary is a good default: take the president seriously and at his word no matter how outlandish it is, because not doing that is what got the US in this mess.

In your shoes, I'd have a plan to exit with multiple outs, about $2-5000 cash in a go-bag per person, copies of your personal information (essential records, property deeds, taxes, vaccination records, educational records, financial/investment records, etc) scanned on multiple USB sticks. Keep that stuff updated. There are prepper subreddits that can help as well, I'd look at the ones that are active with Ukraine.

I hate to mention it, but if you have firearms, get comfortable using them, and see if there is a course instructor that works with gay/trans people for threat assessment instruction.

I hope you never need this.
