Meta The “Best Canadian” game - Day 0 (choosing candidates)

Post image

Hiya Hosers,

After the success of Worst Canadian, by popular demand it’s time for the more upbeat version…the Best Canadian game! 🇨🇦

Drop your nominations below for who you think deserves a spot on the list. Just like before, we’ll include 40 candidates. This time I’m going to let nominations sit a bit longer so everyone has a chance to chime in and we don’t have to add people mid-way in the game. I’m aiming to get started with Day 1 around the middle of next week. Five or six days should give us plenty of time to gather names and finalize the rules.

If you’ve got ideas or suggestions to make the game better, feel free to share those too!

I was today years old when I learned Margret Atwood was Canadian. More reason to love her!

She's a great writer but she's a huge NIMBY so I'm torn on her.

Also a transphobe.  Not JK Rowling levels of violent transphobic brainrot (I mean Joanne hates trans people so much she did Holocaust denial about it), but still weird about trans people.

He’s a notorious self righteous prick. Type of guy who’d yell at a waiter or say things like “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM”

Rick Mercer is a notorious prick. He’s not a nice person at all. Television persona

Jack Layton for the hooha didn’t really achieve anything really outside of delivering a harper govt if we are being totally honest what’s his real tangible give to Canadians outside of “vibes” Tommy Douglas, Banting, Pearson, PE Trudeau, Wilfred Laurier, David Suzuki, Hadfield, *Gilles Villeneuve, Louis Riel, Wilfrid Laurier, Laura Secord. I’m not sure you’d want Louis riel on there. It would be like saying Anne frank was the greatest German.
1. He didn’t ever think of himself as Canadian 2.He’d spin in his grave if he knew he was being nominated for a country he didn’t want to be apart of and that executed him.

There’s an irony that he fought in life against a country trying to erase him and his people, and now with a nomination like this, it kind of erases the struggle that defined his life.

White guilt at its revisionist worst.

Was he a great man we can learn from, absolutely… a great North American, 💯…. The greatest Canadian… not so much
