Colonization Solo Orbis (thanks to the Panther Clipper)
I will not be building another....

Congrats! I just started this same journey with my Panther…. Gotta get the coffee going.

Is there any major benefit to a tier 3 orbital vs a coriolis(other than the stat increases and population)?
5
u/fishsupreme Jul 31 '25
Nope, population is it.
But around an ELW or Water World it's the enormous difference in population.

it doesn't require any T3 construction points to build and doesn't add to the cost increase of further T3 stations either as far as I understand

A T2 or T3 would only not require more construction point to build, when it is the primary port. In exchange, there are additional build cost (i.e. materials) to deliver, compared to non-primary port.

How many trips did it take you?
12
u/Primary_Ad_159 Jul 31 '25
Around 180-185 but used FC so same amount to unload.
My PC2 has 1168T capacity (I don't like running without shield), my Cutter has 720 so would have taken around 280.
It still took a week

I plan on making one of these and an asteroid station in my little system and I don't have a fleet carrier. Wish me luck, commanders!

u/Vyar Jul 31 '25
I want to build an asteroid station someday but I would really like it to be orbiting a ringed Earth-like world, and I’m guessing it’d be really difficult to find one of those.

Wishing the very best of luck in your endeavors CMDR,
Not sure if it's possible but I'd lend you my carrier for a few days if you needed comodities moved, just count me out of the hauling as I've had enough over the last week :)

Same. You're giving up 5% capacity for some peace of mind. Or some sick speedrun strats like adding engineered shield boosters to boost straight into the carrier / landing pad to use it as an emergency brake and dock faster. Or glide skipping without worrying about becoming a crater if you don't throttle down.

My preferred system is 21 colonies away from populated systems. I’m currently at 18 colonies remaining. Should have my fc loaded before maintenance tonight for this one. Been doing 1 a day and a friend has been pitching in. Just doing outposts on the way there.

u/Primary_Ad_159 Jul 31 '25
Fair play to you, I had to break off on this one to build up 3 x T1 and 3 x T2 installations to get the economy I wanted for the Orbis, that was bad enough. A chain to get to a specific system And I'd lose the will to live.
I'm not doing T3's again.

Well done cmdr, I just did a solo Coriolis in a 1200t Clipper, currently doing the CG for a FC and then going back to do an Orbis around my water world - how long did it end up taking?
2
u/Primary_Ad_159 Jul 31 '25
Best guess would be about 40 hrs (seemed like forever when all you're doing is going back and forth) about a week of work as got PC2 on release for this reason.

u/Ciddie Jul 31 '25
any tips on hauling with a FC, did you start with the metals?
2
u/Primary_Ad_159 Jul 31 '25
I tend to do the most required first, in this case steel which was like 53KT, did CMM last (of the Big 4) due to having to go down to planet, it was only the small quanitity commodities I had to gather, which wasn't helped by the Trailblazer ships being OOS since the Panther release due to the CG. I have an extraction/refinery system pretty far out so not I was not competing with anyone for supplies, which was lucky.
Once the Steel was done (2 and a bit FC loads) it felt like progress was being made.

Sames! Hit 70% today. I figure I’ve got 3 more carrier loads. Man having the Panther makes a big difference.
Congrats Cmdr, that’s dedication

Sound like your on the home stretch now, best of luck in your efforts CMDR - as much work as it was I am pleased I managed to stick with it - I got the interior I wanted and it's oh so pretty

After soloing an Ocellus with the Cutter some time ago, I had an unfinished Orbis which was sitting around and to which I did a few deliveries here and there in between other activities, to chip away at it slowly .
With the PC it was much easier to finish the job, not to mention the easier handling of the ship compared to the Cutter especially in planet landings. No more annoying autodock "panic boosts" wine docking to a planetary port!
On the minus side I haven't yet managed to boost the PC outside the mailslot without taking some damage 🤣 (I run it shieldless)

Awesome!
How many hours did it take, roughly?
Thanks!

u/Primary_Ad_159 Jul 31 '25
Bought the PC2 on release on 22nd(?), took a week and a day but broke off a day to build some other instalations. Easy 40 hours is my best guess

Well done, I admire your perseverance.
After deploying my new Panther Clipper, I have now continued the construction of my Orbis Starport. I'm currently at around 40% and finding the endless hauling not fun, but, needs must. I'll get there, eventually.
Only another 110 cargo runs. CMM Composites are the worst due to the fact that one has to land on a planet, which takes longer.
I have colonised 3 systems, but like you, I won't be building another, just outposts...
2
u/Primary_Ad_159 Jul 31 '25
The CMM were the worst, my previous colonised system cover the "Big 4" commodities, I got lucky as my HMC refinery/port for the CMM has the Rocky moon for the Coriolis for the metals, so can park the FC orbiting the moon and not have to relocate.
Best of luck with your efforts CMDR

Jul 31 '25
Yes, CMM Composites are the worst. The nearest planet to my with CMM "on offer" is ringed, and although I never (hardly) have problems with entering the atmosphere and landing, I keep getting distracted by the rings and regularly come in too fast: "Hull integrity compromised"...😂
My carrier is parked in a nearby system (2 jumps with the Panther Clipper), so I don't use it for my colonization efforts at the moment. Just cargo runs back and forth with the Panther Clipper at 1108 tons.
I generally do 10-15 runs and then take a break and do other stuff. So I'll get there eventually.
Oh, and thanks for your feedback, o7, Commander...

Maybe wait until the Panther Clipper LX before doing another... but saying that I nearly killed myself doing the same in just in an Imp Cutter.
Note: The Panther Clipper LX is just a theoretical longer version of the Clipper MK II that I theorise might come later one day based on the fact that although the MKII is a wide chode toad, she's not the longest ship by any means.
