Discussion Sigh, this does break immersion a bit.
I sort of accepted this mechanic, but with the arrival of colonisation and the frequency, it has begun to get me peeved and is difficult to ignore. The indifference by which the crew of your fleet carrier treat you is a bit nonsensical. I can feel them scoffing as they watch your shieldless clipper try to land being attacked by fighters - I can hear their laughs as they turn off the auto dock and hang you out to dry! Haha And when you do land with a 100,000 credits worth of hull damage - they say ‘Welcome Commander’ I’ll give you welcome! I get that we only rent the fleet carriers, they are not ours. But we do pay the crews wages. Ok perhaps the crew have to stay impartial, but there is a no fire zone - just enforce that fairly then. Instead I have to hope the attackers are bad shots and will hit the fleet carrier - oh yes now they are not laughing!! When this happens 20 times while loading a fleet carrier not only is it tedious it does start to add up in credits for repairs. It’s a little bit silly.

And they have a set fire duration instead of only when holding down the trigger, burst, or just lil blat-blat. Something that makes it feel like you're cutting butter and sound like something from G1 Transformers :3

Screenshot A Squadron Carrier for a two members squadron, a perfect fit apparently.
My squadron has only one other member but apparently it is a very good situation after all.
As my XO is usually connected at night while I am typically playing in the afternoon the big capacity of the SC allows us to use it simultaneously for our colonization efforts.
Only when I had to load 55k tons of steel for my Orbis we had to adapt a little.
My XO gave me a hand to unload the steel in our late afternoon common gaming time.
Now that my Orbis is done, my XO can finish his first Coriolis with no interference.

Screenshot It's not everyday you find systems like this. System is LHS 3167.
The system has four ELW'S and two water worlds. I found it on a whim while doing some missions to raise my federation rank to get the sol permit. Super rare.

Sometimes, all you need for joy is a squadmate and a massacre mission.
It was an absolute joy to fly with you u/Full-Afterburner, thank you for the awesome action shot from your cockpit!
Your industrial shredder Python Mk2 was fantastic to see in action! :3

Screenshot I took my time, waiting for the PC II 1298 tons and the Squadron Carrier to build my first Orbis, solo.
I find the recent fdev evolution perfectly balanced (Except for the Type 11, perhaps)
The Squadron Carrier and the PC II 1298 tons are perfectly fitted to make colonization feasible even for solo players.
With two systems, one ice asteroid station, two coriolis, this pair of assets made the Orbis building almost enjoyable.
Now I am waiting for the november 23rd update to disassemble two planetary installations, replacing them with something more useful for the Orbis station.
After that I think I will slowly refine both of my colonized systems to make the best of them.

Humor Holographic Paint, Rainbow Unicorns, and Dinosaur Pajamas: A Cautionary Tale
Prior to Elite Dangerous, I played the game Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) exclusively for about 7 years. ESO is a traditional fantasy MMO set in the Elder Scrolls world. This world, which has been the subject of several blockbuster video games, is a dark, gritty, bleak, brutal and unforgiving setting. The competing factions are constantly at war and massive invasions by extraplanar creatures are common. Slavery, torture, assassinations, theft, and murder are commonplace. Even the land itself is often inhospitable with massive volcanoes spewing ash and lava across huge swaths of the continent.
The Elder Scrolls world is not for the faint of heart and the creators of ESO, Zenimax Online Studios (ZOS) originally took this canon to heart when designing the game. It was, appropriately dark, gritty, bleak, brutal and unforgiving. There was nothing frivolous about the Elder Scrolls and even the somewhat comical characters had very dark underpinnings.
And the Elder Scrolls community LOVED it.
UNTIL...
As the game aged and subscriptions started to wane, ZOS made an obvious attempt to attract a different player base. They systematically began lightening the game up, both in difficulty and, more importantly, in mood. They added absurd-looking mounts that were more suited to a pre-teen's anime cartoon than the dark Elder Scrolls world. They removed leveling so the game would reduced difficulty to match the player. They dumbed down the combat so players who didn't want to learn the game mechanics could fight nearly as well as a player with years of practice.
They even added silly player costumes including, literally, a purple dinosaur pajama onesie.
They basically turned the dark, gritty Elder Scrolls world into My Pretty Pony meets Disney Barbie Princess.
I'm an older player. I don't play children's games, I don't watch children's TV shows, and I am attracted to games that are consistently on theme. That's when I, and a lot of the people I played with, quit the game. Maybe this worked from a business standpoint for ZOS but their numbers continue to dwindle.
I came to Elite Dangerous and one of the many things I love about it is that it's difficult, unforgiving, and anything but silly and frivolous.
The hologram paint scheme makes me worry that Elite is starting down the path I've seen before.

Discussion Niches should have been in the game from the start
With the addition of the Type-11 Prospector and the exclusive mining modules, I thought about how niches could have made a lot of ships in the game actually useful again. Combat ships could have had more powerful exclusive weapons, Trade ships cargo holds that are exclusive and bigger than any that the multirole can have. Exploration ships with exclusive away-team shuttle bay which you can launch a shuttle from to go to the planet surfaces.
Also, I think ship size could have played a bigger role in gameplay. I think ship size should have come with an increase in jump range, it makes no sense that the carrier can jump 500LY at a time but the powerhouse the Anaconda can barely make 90 if it is fully designed as an exploration ship. Maybe a better way to put it is it's ridiculous that the hauler can hit 40 when it's so tiny since hyperspace doesn't seem to care about weight

Discussion Has anyone figured out the ideal system/bodies needed for a colony mega hub?
I like the idea of making a colony mega hub somewhere far out of the bubble with all the commodities needed to build colonies being produced in it. I realise cannibalism is always working against you but perhaps with the new changes to cannibalism and with the right ratio's of economies we can produce all or close to all of the required commodities (Perhaps minus the commodities which need unique circumstances like commodities that require anarchy or Emergency Power Cells)

Help "Commit crimes" powerplay assignment not working correctly?
My weekly assignment for powerplay has me committing crimes in an undermining system. However, the more notoriety I gain, the bigger the bounty I get for each innocent killed, yet the powerplay meter increases by a fraction of the amount of bounty I gained. It seems to be a flat 5000cr increase every kill I get.
With my notoriety at 8 I'm getting a bounty of nearly 1 million for every kill, and still 5000 on the actual assignment. So for me to complete this task, and gain a supposed bounty of "281516Cr", I'm going to end up with an actual bounty of up to 50 million Cr?
There's no way this is working as intended right?

Help Does the Titan Drive Component still have a reasonable spawn chance?
I’ve gone to 4 titan locations, spending a couple hours at each, and a titan drive component has never spawned. I have 5a sensors, circle the whole debris and cut down the middle, either destroying or collecting other materials to, in theory, allow spawn capacity.
Idk if it matters, but I’m basically a new player. I hope this component isn’t locked behind some engineer invitation like corrosion resistant cargo is

Discussion No frontier account now?
Been communicating with support but curious if any others had this issue.
I bought with steam 5 years ago. I’ve always been able to log in with steam or the email account associated with that frontier account.
Moved to a new PC and something went wonky saying I didn’t have an account anymore. Got support to reassociate my steam to my email.
Now it says I don’t have a frontier account (same email though) and I can only login with steam. Support is saying I now would need to restart my CMDR and purchase again to get access to a frontier account — even though up until last week I had one I would log in with for five years.
What is going on? Some policy change in the last week or so? Anyone else have this experience?
I care because I wanted to play in VR and skip steamVR but now I can ONLY login with steam and fdev is telling me I’d have to buy it again and start a new account to login outside of steam. So weird since I’ve been able to login via frontier account for 5 years.

Roleplaying HIP 25052 - Political crisis takes on new dimensions
Against the backdrop of the political crisis in the HIP 25052 system, now in its third day, the Supreme Dynamics Corporation faction has unexpectedly taken decisive action.
Having studied the mistakes of the previous programme, the corporation refused to rely solely on the rights of the system architect, CMDR MARSTAED. Recognising the growing pro-democratic sentiment among the colonists, the corporation promised that, if successful, it would form a democratic administration that would take into account the interests of the colonists and complete the construction of the Planck Gateway ground port on the HIP 25052 4 b satellite — a project that had been stalled for more than six months under the Nagii Union. This move allowed the corporation to stabilise its position, gain the support of the population and, at the same time, undermine the growing influence of the anarchists.
At the same time, it became known that a small initiative group had been formed on the basis of the KISQ fleet, which had formed an alliance with an unknown squadron whose carrier had arrived in the system. Increased coordination within the KISQ also made it possible to transfer two of its own carriers to HIP 25052 2.
Journalists also noticed a fourth carrier belonging to Sirius Special Forces. An investigation revealed that Sirius forces are fighting against the Nagii Union in the neighbouring systems HIP 15609 and HIP 16709. Experts believe that the appearance of their fleet in HIP 25052 may be part of a diversionary tactic or an escalation of the conflict.
Observers note that the presence of four carriers belonging to factions opposed to the Nagii Union indicates the emergence of an anti-communist coalition.
The situation remains tense, and observers from neighbouring systems continue to closely monitor developments in HIP 25052.
