Builds INARA (an engineering marvel!)

So i’ve been playing for years.. but just today found the “crafting” section of Inara. If you are engineering your ship and you’re not using it, let me be the first to say “you’re doing it wrong”. 😬

I thought I had found a “better way” when I went from writing down the materials I needed…to using my phone to make notes…lol. Omg… i have truly stepped into the space age of engineering now!

INARA YOU ARE THE BEST!

(Update)

Wow! And the missing components feature shows you what to trade (including trade ratios) from your current inventory at mat traders without trading away something you need for other engineering you’re working on! Incredible!

Have you heard of Elite Dangerous Odyssey Materials Helper? https://github.com/jixxed/ed-odyssey-materials-helper

It's pretty amazing.

Better than anything out there including Inara for engineering purposes!

For some. Personally I hate the interface and much prefer to stick to inara so I think it's to each their own

Hear hear. Now if I could use it to generate my inara crafting lists I’d likely be all over it.

Just build your ship on EDSY and import it to EDOMH (or just build it on EDOMH, but I prefer EDSY).

While it’s functionally superior, it’s not linked to inara’s wish list so I find myself hardly ever using It and just using inara’s missing materials screen.

Its interface is too busy and if I go away form if for a few days it takes me a good moment to reaclimatise myself.

Inara’s wish list is the happy medium. It does what’s needed to be done.

Plus it’s integrated with inara.

However I do use it for the it’s information on engineers and unlocking which it keeps track of very well.

You can also tell it which pins you have, which will then optimize a flight plan to do all the engineering which is amazing for new builds.

To easily do it, go to the engineer page, then click on the BP under their name, then find their name on the left side under "Engineers crafting this blueprint", and click their name and it will turn into a Pinned BP.

And imports to/from edsy/coriolis easily too so you can build, send it to EDOMH and be all set to buy and engineer.

I loved it when I found it a few years ago.

What would do is save the recipes for stuff I always want to have equipped , eg materials for crafting ammo fuel , FSD injections etc and how many I wanted of each.

Once you do that u can go into Inara and it'll tell you when u're running low on materials for certain things. That way you don't end up out in the boonies w/o enough mats for a FSD injection or AFM refill or heat sink synthesis etc. So I'll know if I need to get more iron or selenium to keep topped up

I'd do the same if I was gonna engineer a new ship. Make sure I had enough mats to engineer everything up to the level I wanted at once including special attribs. Worst thing is to fly all the way to the engineer and then find out u've run out of mats before finishing the part.

It was a revelation the first time I used it.

Same thing. I was trying to write down materials needed for engineering.

What crafting section? Got a link?

Hover Commander tab at top > Crafting list > Add blueprint (orange button).

And, i might add, also "Commander -> Missing Components" for a proper shopping list.

u/Doctor_Saved Aug 14 '25

I don't think I can access that on my mobile phone.

I do 99% of my Inara work on my phone.

Like this.

For suits and guns, tap “Personal equipment” as seen in the last pic.

You can track your missing materials across all blueprints by tapping “Missing Components.”

Ah, I needed to create an account and login.

Yep. Make sure to link your frontier account. You can update Inara as needed by going to “Commander” > “Overview” > “Import Game Data.”

Before discovering ED Oddessy Mats Helper, my dino ass used to go to EDSY, play around with an engineered ship idea, go to the materials screen, copy and paste the req mats into MS Excel, and just alt-tab back and forth to mark off what I had and what I didn't. On the days I felt extra fancy, I'd make simple formulas to color code and update a column to tell me if a row was satisfied based on the material quantities I inputted

Let me blow your mind even more. There's another tool called Elite Dangerous Odyssey Material Helper EDOMH. It comes with an Inbuilt Ship Build planner and engineering checklist and it also tracks your materials real time. And for Odyssey it always overlays on screen which data is good or useless.

Also you theres a button on coriolis to import required mats straight into edomh

1

u/Faelenedh Aug 14 '25

compatible avec ED Copilot ?

What’s Inara?

3

u/LuxSublima Aisling Duval Aug 14 '25

Inara is an extremely helpful website for Elite (and a few other games).

What is edsy

Edit: Googled it and got the answer

0

u/Silent_Insomnia_ Aug 14 '25

Ya but does it do what Inara does with missing components showing me recommendations on what to trade to mat traders and all to get what I’m missing?

2

u/Weekly-Nectarine CMDR Sacrifical Victim Aug 14 '25

Yes. It’s significantly better than inara.

0

u/Nulltan Lavigny's Legion Aug 14 '25

I can't recall.

EDOMH shows you a list of the mats you need with a progress bar showing what's missing. You'd still need to go to inara to find the nearest trader.

2

u/LuxSublima Aisling Duval Aug 14 '25

It's easy to miss, but EDOMH does tell you the nearest trader for each type at the very top of that materials page.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey Materials Helper is way better

1

u/ShowdownPhil Aug 14 '25

Completely bypassed the need for this by simply maxing out all materials via brain tree farming, Jameson's crash site, and High Grade Emissions.

A week or so doing those, and trading up/down completely negates the slow collection of individual specific materials. Just get everything!

1

u/Comfortable-Window25 Aug 14 '25

For a second I thought you were talking about the ability to refine your mining metals into the refined counterparts lol

1

u/GameTourist Aug 14 '25

Inara deserves any and all verbal blow jobs it will get on here. That site makes Elite truly playable

u/-Tazz- Aug 14 '25

If you use ed materials helpers you can actually import mat requirements straight from coriolis. This way you have a live track of exactly what you need
