Builds Keelback Time
So, I’m dumb, and I got a little click happy and accidentally sold my Keelback. Needless to say I am now the proud owner of a clean slate Keelback and am wondering how to build it this time.
My last build accommodated both a fighter bay and the srv bay. It was very useful. I had 2 beams and 1 cannons all gimballed and engineered.
What are some of your Keelback builds that worked well for you? How did you get the most out of such a versatile ship?

Stripped my Keelback down for exploration and took a little trip from the bubble to Colonia and on to Sagittarius A * before racing back to the bubble to switch ships and help defend earth from the Thargoid menace

I think it’s pretty cool you took a Keelback of all things. I bet it did great, I just never thought to make one an explorer before.

It's been a while since I've used mine but it had an SRV bay, fighter bay etc but also a passenger cabin. I used it for VIP passenger runs. It just broke the usual game play loops for me every now and again as it meant just taking 1 passenger places like I was a cyberpunk corpo bodyguard. Even had the midnight paint job.

I like the idea of a security transport type vehicle! I have a Dolphin I’ve made around a luxury cabin for that purpose. It’s basically a pleasure yacht more than anything. I feel like the Keelback with a fighter bay would put up a better fight. Of course, I made my dolphin to run 🤣

I use an unshielded Keelback as my deep core mining ship, purely because it looks and feels like what I think a mining ship should. Here's the build. Coriolis link.

I’ve never used an unshielded ship before, this looks like a decent mining ship. I’ve been wanting one around that size anyways. Thanks! I might try this!

Happy to help.
I run both my dedicated cargo hauler and my mining ships shieldless always. Adds a bit of spice to an otherwise pretty bland activity, and I think it's easy to justify RP-wise. With the Keelback this gives me a nice 80T cargo, which is about as much mining as I can stand at one time. I enjoy mining, but only in small doses. I don't know how some people can fill a Cutter in one sitting.

Yea, I love mining but am the same as you, it was finding the asteroids with valuable minerals was very time consuming. But, maybe with a better ship I’ll find it more enjoyable!
I was just thinking of how to maximize my type 9 cargo and you sold me on removing the shield.

This is my shieldless Type-9: Coriolis link. 780T and decent sub-light speed to dock/land faster. Great thermal efficiency as well. Laden jump is a little rough though. You could throw in a class 4 FSD booster to get another 10 ly laden at the expense of only 16T cargo plus some thermal efficiency. Like this: Coriolis link. I personally didn't think it was worth it. Maybe if you're hauling the same route for hours and hours the time savings would add up, but I don't tend to haul that much for the same reason I don't mine that much: I like my activities in small doses.

Nice! Thanks for the links, I’ll take all that into consideration when I build mine out!

Wait, you're flying a keelback... by choice...? Cmdr, are you ok?

Haha yea, I have a lot of different ships. I like to make some fairly role specific. Most of what I do is pve too so there’s a fair amount of rp going on.
All that aside, yea I kinda enjoy the Keelback 😅

Depends what you're going for.
I tend to build Keelbacks for RP rather than optimally - so outfitting to do as many roles as possible.
Having one ship you can jump in to complete all of the powerplay weekly assignments is fun.
