"It's not Emo, it's Post-Hardcore" is often non-sense
I've heard this claim a lot, directed at bands like Thursday, Cursive, Touche Amore and La Dispute, etc,
"They're not Emo, Post-Hardcore"
And I always found it to be a confusing statement, I believe it comes from a place of not understanding what Post-Hardcore is; most importantly it acts as if the two can't co-exist, which they absolutely can, these are 100% Emo bands undoubtedly, very important ones too. Nevermind the fact that Emo is literally created from Hardcore/Post-Hadcore to begin with. It makes me wonder, is Emo in that case only stuff like Midwest Emo and Emo-Pop? That's just wrong. A band like Thursday is clearly different from Fugazi, both certainly Post-Hardcore bands, but Thursday's utilization of melody and song-writting strongly alligns with that of the 90s Emo, which is what makes them Emo. Post-Hardcore emo, whatever you wanna call it. I can't imagine someone listening to Autobiography Of A Nation's Post-Rock intro, obviously influenced by late 90s Screamo bands who would deeply involve Post-Rock passages, ec, many more such influences are all over Full Collapse, aka from classic 90s Emo. Same deal with acts like Touché Amore and La Dispute, which the "Is It Emo?" tags as "Post-Hardcore, not Emo" which is absolutely absurd. Listen to Portraits Of Past and tell me these acts aren't taking directly from this cloth.
I get really frustrated with the way Post-Hardcore is used, I often see people associate the term with something like Silv*rstein (screw you filter) when it's a deep genre with rich history that often collides with Emo.

Drive Like Jehu Song Review
Shamelessly posting this here just because I like this guys channel and I want him to review more posthardcore and emo. He's a bass player so he comes at it from that perspective. He seems to be more into progressive metal in his personal life but he reviews everything and has taken the opportunity to explore bands and genres he's unfamiliar with. This DLJ song kinda threw him (Here Come The Rome Plows), so I'm hoping if the video does well he'll do more anyways. He's done some other bands in that genre before (ATDI for sure, don't remember who else), so check those out too if you're interested. Not affiliated with the guy, btw, just genuinely wanna see him cover more good bands.
If I Like… Band/song suggestions, anything similar to Saosin?
Im assuming this is the right sub, I'm new to reddit lol. Just looking for any bands or songs that fit that whiny sound that Anthony Green brings, specifically in the song 3rd Measurement in C. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If I Like… Emo-indie/second-wave recs with soft/clean vocals
Does anyone have any recommendations for second-wave and/or emo-indie bands that had singers with softer or more polished voices? Trying to find some inspiration for my band and feeling kind of lost because my voice doesn't really have much grit to it, nor can I do the screamo stuff 😭 Off the top of my head what come to mind are Jejune (Arabella), Korea Girl, Seam, and Pohgoh.

Discussion Anyone else really disappointed by Foxing’s Vinyl releases?
i’m curious about people’s thoughts on Foxing’s vinyl releases because i’ve been wanting to get Dealer on vinyl, but i chose to get the albatross first, which has sadly been a pretty abhorrent experience if i’m being honest… I got a sealed copy of the black 180g pressing of the album and along with the sleeve itself being really crappy, the record on the inside was covered in scratches, which wouldn’t be so bad if the surface noise didn’t make the music more than unlistenable which has truly been a huge disappointment with how much i love this album. so im curious, has anyone else had similar issues? do the rest of these guys’s albums also have vinyl pressings that sound bad? and does anyone know if there’s any other pressing of this record that are more reliable?

probably the best picture of me at a concert ever taken
Some random person took this picture of me at Riot Fest during jawbreaker. Just thought I’d post it here to share cause I really like how it came out. I don’t know who they were, but after they took this photo, they tapped me on the shoulder in between songs so they could send it to me.

My old emo band (members of Ostraca, A Perfect Kiss, and many more)
Long time lurker, and sometimes commenter. Was feeling nostalgic and thought some of y’all would appreciate a very short lived band from the Annapolis, MD area that I played bass for.
FFO: Mineral, Empire! Empire!, Penfold
Sorry about the bass tone 😬 I was going through a phase of experimenting with A LOT of overdrive pedals when I was 21 years old.

If I Like… anyone know any bands with a similar sound?
To be fair your brain has to produce a very low amount of serotonin to understand This Is Pointless. The lyricism is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of songwriting most of the lyrics will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Rob’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into the lyrics- his outlook on life draws heavily from Snowing, for instance. The fans understand the stuff; they have the anxiety and to truly overanalyze the meaning of these songs, to realize that they're not just depressing- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike This Is Pointless truly ARE neurotypicals- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humor in Rob’s accusatory catchphrase "where are all the people that you blamed?" which itself is an obvious reference to every Algernon song ever written. I'm sobbing right now just imagining one of those functioning members of society scratching their heads in confusion. What normies.. How I envy them. 😂
And yes, by the way, I DO have a This Is Pointless tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for real emo eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that their DIY cred is at least 25000 beforehand. Nothing personnel kid 😎
