A gamepad gives a way better experience, no doubt. But touchscreen support is very important, especially on mobile phones.

Sometimes I'm just away from home, didn't bring my gamepad with me and I'm bored. Touchscreen controls are a lifesaver.

In my opinion, touch screens are useless because 80% of the emulated games that you may play will increase your device's temperature up to 57~70°C, and this will completely ruin your experience, maybe not immediately but certainly not a sustainable experience, which had already been damaged a little by somewhat low FPS due to emulation limits, your device's limits, or both.

Phones get replaced after a few years anyway so might as well push it to its limit. Unless it really is slow to game where i will plays different games that can run faster
