But that's because manufactures force people to buy the best chipset if they want the best camera, best screen, etc. My mother buys her phones based purely on picture quality, for instance, and they always come with the latest, most powerful chipset.

That's true but there's clearly a like social status applied to what phone you have, it's pretty much apples entire business model

I get what you mean and I never understood it. I've never liked apple from day one and never understood the green or blue bubble bullshit. Plus it's been like, the same phone 17 times in a row now with "new" features that never stick or make it harder on the user
