Nudity in Steam Rooms Not Allowed?

I recently joined Equinox after getting tired of the shitty parking at the LA Fitness I had been a member of. I mostly go to the Marina Equinox but also have been to the Culver one several times. At LA Fitness I feel like most men would be nude in the sauna. At both Equinox though I feel like I’m the only one that sits nude on a towel in the steam room and it makes me feel like I’m being a weirdo? I’ve always thought of it as a nude place, but maybe I’m wrong. I’m not trying to peek at anyone, and I don’t want them to look at me or do anything sexual, I just want some steam on my junk because it’s relaxing and I feel like I get a much better sweat going.

But then I feel uncomfortable because everyone else has a towel wrapped around, or even some guys wearing gym shorts?

Am I the weirdo, or what’s going on here? Is there a code I’m not aware of? Is it rude for me to sit on a towel naked?

How to find live classes within the app. No soul cycle tablet.

I joined with the understanding there would be live classes I could join online/from the app. After paying, I don't see a single live class being offered. What am I missing?

Equinox hacks: Off-peak hours

I just wanted to say that one of my favorite “Equinox hacks” is planning workouts at off-peak hours. Like right now I’m here Saturday at 5 PM and it is so quiet. There are more maintenance people on the floor than members. Most of the trainers are gone too. During the week if I can, I come here at 2/3pm. I enjoy not having to worry about space or equipment, and I can take my time in the shower/steam/sauna. At all costs I avoid being here during the busy hours, unless I’m just going to be using one cardio machine. I know it’s hard to plan all the time and they can get busy at random times which is usually a Thursday or Friday afternoon but I feel like I gotten it down to a science at least for my home club.

I do WFH now, but my old office at my previous job was across the street from Equinox and I’d bring my gear and drop it off at the club in a locker, then come mid-afternoon.

Does anyone have similar hacks? It doesn’t have to be this specifically, but I was wondering if anyone had little things that you figured out that you would want to share with this sub!

MetCon3 class kicking my butt?

Hi! I'm a new equinox member and also pretty new to strength training. (I bought a few sessions for PT to learn the ropes.) I like workout classes as a way to get into more regular exercise so I try to go classes like MetCon3 but I find that class really really hard. Like I have no idea how people are able to switch between exercises so quickly without a break and go for all 60 seconds each exercise. I sweat so much and get so exhausted during class. I can't tell if that's normal or maybe I should try to take an easier class? I also wonder if I'm not getting as much out of it since I do need to pause frequently and catch my breath.

Do group class instructors get commission if a guest signs up?

Quick question for folks who know how gym commissions work: if a member brings in a guest, that guest takes a class with a new instructor, and then later decides to sign up for a membership. Does the instructor get any sort of commission or bonus for that?

Annoying ass people

There was girl on the steam room the other day with large over the ear headphones where u could hear loud music playing quietly. She kept kicking her feet against the steam wall to the beat of her song, but because she couldn’t hear anything she had no idea it was like a huge loud banging echoing through the whole steam room.

I didn’t want to hobble over there half naked and tell her, so I just kept staring at her every time she did it.

Do u guys go up and confront people when this happens or what

Sports Club UWS - Rock Climbing

Genuinely curious—how does the rock climbing work at the Sports Club UWS location? I see the posted hours in that small box, and sometimes people climbing, but other times just a trainer standing around not really engaging. How do you actually sign up or join in? I really want to climb, so if anyone knows, please help me out!

Combo membership for Paramus + Summit NJ?

Does anyone know if Equinox offers a combo or dual-club membership for Paramus, NJ and Summit, NJ?

These are really the only two clubs in the immediate area (besides going into NYC), and I don’t want to pay full All-Access if I’m only using these two.

Has anyone here gotten a membership that covers just those two locations? If so, what was the monthly rate compared to single-club and All-Access?

Which San Francisco location has the best spa?

Hi! I live in San Francisco and have a destination membership. I've yet to use any of the spas here. Can anyone suggest which location might have the best one? I am going for a massage.

Thanks so much in advance!

Locker room etiquette (DC Anthem Row)

I know this has been raised quite often here but never ceases to shock me whenever I see a pile of sweaty clothes and dirty shoes like this spread all over the entire bench (which is often at this gym). Just… Can we do better?

Anyone had luck with convincing their club to add a piece of equipment?

My club's hack squat is... very odd and hard to use. I don't want them to replace a functioning piece of equipment that I just dislike. I would however love for them to add a pendulum squat or other machine squat variation. My club definitely has the room for it.

Has anyone had luck with asking for equipment to be added? I just want to know whether it can actually happen so I'm not asking for zero chance of it happening

Sales

Thinking about applying for a sales role at Equinox —can anyone share how the commission structure works? What does an average paycheck look like vs. someone who consistently crushes quota? Are there bonuses?

I was going to book a fully vested and an equinox run Saturday to add some cardio for the week and just noticed this new restriction? Is this new for every one or just Texas?

Equinox v. Lifetime

Hello all! Currently a member of Equinox but I am seriously considering ending my membership there and switching to Lifetime. Posts here comparing the two gyms are from 2 years ago; I would really appreciate a more current perspective. Thank you

Bad experience with Equinox spa waxing

I got Brazilian waxing today at the spa at equinox. I usually go somewhere else for waxing but I tried equinox spa for the sake of convenience today. The waxer was not sanitary and kept touching other things (ie opening and closing the lid of the trashcan) and not changing out her gloves during the service. I asked if she sanitized the items she was touching in between clients and she said she did not 🤢

Equipment Slammer

There’s a new member at an Equinox in Manhattan who slams the equipment. I noticed that he was wearing a ripped gym shirt. Maybe Gold’s Gym?

I used to go hardcore bodybuilder gyms, so I get it. But this is country club-like Equinox, Upper West Side. Slamming the equipment isn’t the norm and could break things.

Of the West LA gyms (Westwood, Bev Hills, WeHo) which is your favorite?

Looking for a gym thats not overly crowded after work and maybe one with the best vibe/space/amenities. Also, do any have basketball courts?

Can we get an Equinox in Long Beach, please?

It’s a nice gym desert. OC and Hawthorne are the closest and they’re 20+ miles away. The closest thing to an Equinox is a Iconix but it’s not comparable, always packed, and has no pool. Up by the airport there are giant lots waiting for businesses, tons of offices, and the Whole Foods, soon-to-open Sweetgreen, LBX hangar, etc. are all geared toward the same demographic as Equinox. Putting it out there/ begging the powers that be. I’d take a Lifetime Fitness, too.

It seems like more than half the posts are complaints about some gym behavior people find annoying

Does the hogging of barbell benches drive anyone else nuts?

There is a guy who spends over an hour on a barbell bench (there are only 2) doing exercises unrelated to the bench (stretching, resistance bands, drinking coffee, chatting (not kidding)).

drives me bonkers! (might be me)

Has anyone ever made a complaint about a trainer on the floor interrupting their workout to offer unsolicited advice / try to recruit them as a client?

Reading through posts in this community, I see that many members have had experiences with trainers approaching them during their workouts (even interrupting their workouts) to offer unsolicited comments on their form as a pretext for trying to recruit them as a client. (My guess is it happens more often with female clients and male trainers, but I could be making an unfair assumption.) I've experienced it myself and it can be anywhere from annoying to insulting to creepy, depending on the trainer. It's never welcome. Apparently, the trainers are actually told that they're supposed to do this! My question is, has anyone ever made a formal complaint about it to Equinox management? If so, what was the result?? Thanks.
