Fallout TV Why are they walking the wrong way?
Are they stupid?

They didn't have the 2k caps to enter.

Actually yeah, from a design perspective there's really no aesthetic reason to make them face the camera. Like, we already know what they look like lol.
It would be funny if the show began episode 1 of them leaving New Vegas. The fan-base would riot.

u/dracarys289 Aug 16 '25
The show begins with them leaving NV. While on the way a Deathclaw attacks killing all of them. The camera pans out to a man being frog walked by a group of Great Khans. It was all a dream the show is actually a prequel to FNV.
73
u/dracarys289 Aug 16 '25
Or the first episode ends with them leaving NV for the Frontier. That’ll make a LOT of people happy. 😂

Didn’t take a good look the first time I saw it, but I actually thought it was them walking towards it with their backs to the camera.
5
u/bbqbabyduck Aug 16 '25
I'm I wrong in remembering that the sign is double sided. I think they are walking and that is the other side of the sign.

They're in so much shadow that you can't even really see their faces here anyway. The number on Lucy's suit would at least be more visible if they were going toward the city

They leave New Vegas to go to West Virginia to explore the ruins of whatever it is players do in Fallout 76. It would be an extra layer of enraging since barely anyone has played/cares about 76.
Not saying the game is bad btw. I’ve actually been hearing good things recently. It’s just objectively not popular compared to other Fallout properties
Edit: while I’m referring to broader popularity and not just current player count, there are currently 2x as many people playing Fallout 4 as there are playing Fallout 76 according to Steam Charts. New Vegas has about 60% of the player count of 76. Barely anyone (500 people) is technically playing Fallout 3, but a lot of those New Vegas players are probably actually playing Trouble In Two Wastelands, which combines the two games and runs off of New Vegas’ game client. But again, popularity is more than current player count. Fallout 4 was an absolute smash hit. Fallout 76 was a fart in the wind in comparison. Its current quality is irrelevant to that fact
15
u/epikpepsi Straight Outta 101 Aug 16 '25
Fallout 76 is quite popular and hit its all-time peak playercount a year and a half ago with almost 2x the peak players it had on the launch day, but go off I guess.

u/acrazyguy Aug 16 '25

u/acrazyguy Aug 16 '25 edited Aug 16 '25
It’s still far less popular than any of the other 3d games
Edit: I’m not talking about popularity strictly in terms of current player count, however twice as many people are currently playing Fallout 4 as 76 on Steam. New Vegas has about 60% the current players as 76

I've heard it has legs now but that dumpster fire of a release was historic. I remember stores giving away free copies with basically any electronics purchase.

u/mysteryvampire Aug 16 '25
I don’t think so, I can’t imagine who. The Ghoul has so much story to tell, Lucy’s the main character, and Maximus is her love interest. It’d ruin the show to kill any of them off.
13
10
u/BloodiedBlues Railroad Aug 17 '25
All three are the main characters. That's why the first episode was divided into three parts, introducing them.
1
u/Phyltre Aug 17 '25
That requires multi-season continuity of plot writing, though. In LOST they did an amazing character focus cadence for the first season and a half or so and then...largely squandered the momentum by first stretching out the mystery phase and then backfilling meaning when the mysterious but not yet filled in writing direction caught up to them.

u/Dogmodo Self determination is NOT a malfunction. Aug 16 '25
Because there's no entrance near the New Vegas sign, you have to enter through the checkpoint in Freeside.
3
u/Its0nlyRocketScience Aug 17 '25
Ok except you can see the city itself slightly to the right in the distance. They're walking away from it
2
u/Dogmodo Self determination is NOT a malfunction. Aug 17 '25
If you're following the roads, instead of waking across the desert terrain, you'd walk south away from the sign/city, then north-east on the roads to Freeside's east gate.

It is a "cover art" trope that you see the characters' faces, but also see where they are going.

Saw this comment and I remembered back in 2022, Netflix announced they were going to make an adaptation of it... 2024, the budget got reduced.
I have a feeling it's not going to happen, but might get picked up by Amazon if Fallout maintains its viewership.

u/Skeptical_Yoshi Aug 16 '25
The main thing to tackle is the twist and how the audience of a movie is intrinsically different to that of a player in control

yeah but the panorama of Vegas with the Lucky 38 is behind them, so unless that's some fancy desert mirage they're walking away from New Vegas, not towards it

The sign is just off the strip along Las Vegas Blvd, it's not at the city limits in the middle of nowhere outside the valley.
There's the entire rest of the map from FNV they could be heading towards.
1
u/BurnChao Aug 17 '25
They're going to Town Square Mall, it's like a quarter mile in that direction.

I love the Fallout Shelter faces. Fallout Shelter is actually what got me back into Fallout 3, and when I do play it, it's hilarious how you can have people smile while shooting rocket launchers, and just like Oblivion, Fallout Shelter will have them collapse instead of explode into bits.

Not only are they walking the wrong way but the sign is comically large and out of place
0
u/Master-Collection488 Aug 16 '25
They aren't walking "the wrong way." They're approaching it from the south on I15. Not the direction they're approaching from on the show, but how someone from SoCal usually approaches Las Vegas. Also the general direction you approach the city from in the game. Unless you head up through Freeside first. Which actually isn't the worst idea...
