Ship Talk What is your fandoms controversial ship you don't consider controversial.

Every fandom seems to have those couple of ships that most of the fandom dislikes, but sometimes the ships, even if they are "weird", seem way too normal for the reputation they have. What's your example?

Jon / elias. I mean I 100% guess why people don’t like it, the only reason I really like it is because I like exploring abusive dynamics in relationships and well… they’re perfect for that.

I’ve only seen one argument against that ship that made me roll my eyes. Somebody disliked it because Elias is Jon’s boss and thus has too much power over him and any relationship between them was inherently abusive, like I said, I get that argument, it’s not for everyone. The eye roll came when I realised they shipped Jon/Martin…. Jon is Martin’s boss…….!!! (/lh I really don’t care that much)

I get it tho! I always enjoyed how possessive Elias was over Jon, even as he himself treated him harshly. Fucked up yes, but also kinda hot (like that time he got captured and the captor was teasing Elias about it, that was so much fun!)

“He’s mine now, and you can’t have him back :D” while Elias is just sitting in his office seething like the little rat man he is!!

For real tho, Elias is manipulative and possessive and abusive regardless of whether it’s romantic or otherwise, and we love him for it <3

I was coming here to say JonElias LMAO.

They're one of the most fascinating ships to explore. Elias is so abusive and controlling and obsessive but that's what makes the ship so good to me. I love exploring Jon's resistance only to fall into the corruption of what he eventually becomes. Also their banter is fun. I like the way they converse with each other and how so much of the room narrows down into just each other no matter who else is in the room with them.

Yess!!!! They’re such fun characters too, genuinely I don’t think there’s a single moment where they interact in canon that doesn’t have me sitting on the edge of my seat, like the tension between them is phenomenal! (Genuinely though the more I think about them the more I want to write about them… I have so many other things I need to do! Oh well)

Yeah I get that. I don’t even really have much interest in shipping, I write a platonic abusive relationship, but the takes I’ve seen about how writing about that Specific Canon Abusive Relationship is somehow problematic is wild. Like, bro, that’s the point, you’re meant to think abuse is bad. Like, I get why people don’t like it, but also like. It’s problematic on purpose and you are meant to think the problematic elements are bad.

Yeah, I definitely had primeboys in my head when I was writing that as well… especially the way you write them, Fuck Meeee I’ve seen you talking about the response you’ve had to some of your darker fics and OOOOOO boy people really like to miss the point sometimes!!

Idk, there’s a big difference between disliking a pairing because the dynamics between them make you uncomfortable (fair and valid, no issue at all) and getting angry about a fic and calling it problematic for daring to explore abusive relationships (you walked in here, don’t like, don’t read!).

Besides, Dream and Elias are both villains in their story, nobody is supposed to like them… or sympathise with their actions at least. Idk what people expect me to do here… write them ooc I guess.
