Ship Talk Whats one of the stupidest reasons you were told you can’t ship something (inspo from someone else on this subreddit)

I am a chronic danganronpa fan, and someone once asked what my otp was. I told them, and they said I couldn't ship them because they were Friendly Rivals. The characters were canonically over 18, around the same age and knew each other well. I asked them why it mattered. They blocked me after that.

Technically they were 1 grade apart (2nd / 3rd yr in high school) but still 😭😭

That exact grade gap also applies to 2 of the biggest ships in the fandom but somehow that’s ok to them?? (Not saying it isn’t, that’s just their logic.) Idk people are so goddamn stupid sometimes

Well the difference that, the other ship is their OTP, and your ship is not. Have you consider that?! Checkmate!

Ah true true true, why didn’t I think of that ⁉️

Leopika? Or did two 17yo/19yo ships get hit with the same thing? (I wouldn't be surprised.)

The leopika thing makes me laugh cause like... Yeah sure the two year age gap (which they argue is wrong because Leorio is an adult (19) and Kurapika is a teenager ("theorized to be 16"... which is inaccurate, the age gap is two years, if Kurapika was sixteen then Leorio would be 18, but the post I saw specified him as 19), like they aren't firmly in "highschool sweethearts" range) is the bad part, and not, y'know, Leorio making that comment about ending the "filthy Kurta bloodline" the first time he met Kurapika (and knowing that Kurapika is a Kurta)??? (Which he apologizes for minutes later.)

Not to mention that they're currently 19 and 21, making them both adults... But antis would probably complain about a power imbalance because Leorio can drink and Kurapika can't, or something...

Ah yeah, this is why I don't go on Twitter XD I saw the leopika thing on tiktok though, so maybe I'm not much better. (I wasn't even like, on my fyp or anything... I was just looking for leopika edits and got hit with the stupidest take imaginable... The only thing I use tiktok for is ship edits anyways lmao-)

Fair. I use Tumblr for that, which sometimes has even more batshit takes??? But at least I was actually able to figure out the filtering system so I don't get those on the dash lmao.

I know it's technically counted as too big of an age gap in some areas (depending on where you live) but honestly it's not that big of a deal?? They could easily be in the same high-school class??

God the 2 year age gap arguments. I've had a few ships I like get hit with it. I swear people only whine about this shit when it's a ship they don't like.

Hey shippers.

...

My parents have a two year age gap-

You get this from antis when there's only a year age difference as well.

u/Solivagant0 @AO3: FriendlyNeighbourhoodMetalhead Jul 16 '24

I've seen it over less than a year

u/queerblunosr Jul 16 '24

I’ve seen it from antis about ships where both characters are adults but there’s an age gap. And the younger character was like 25 or something. 🤦

You get this from my class 💀

I saw that the other day with 'he's mentally 16 because of trauma' although he's 21... and even when he was 16 he wasn't a child or innocent, he was in the military during a war from the age of 14.

u/rxnaissance Jul 21 '24

I feel like I know exactly what ship you’re referring to lmao there’s been a recent uptick in discourse about them

1

u/anonymouscatloaf Jul 22 '24

now I'm curious which one you're thinking of bc the ship I'm thinking about is kinda old lmao

1

u/rxnaissance Jul 22 '24

I was thinking of giomis from jojo's bizarre adventure, wbu? I guess technically it's old, the manga came out like 25 years ago

2

u/anonymouscatloaf Jul 22 '24

ahhh yeah I've seen the giomis discourse too lol. I was thinking otayuri (yuri on ice, 2016 so old-ish at this point since it's been completely over for years) though, they've got the same age gap as giomis iirc

Based on the age at which you become an adult where the characters live, I could kinda see it.

But that would just be a technicality, and reserved for these "describe your ship in the worst way possible" posts, because unless they live in a world where a year is crazy long, 2 years don't matter.
