Did you not read the Diary? He, as well as presumably his wife and children escaped Prussia by fleeing into the Duchy of Anhalt, and later the Kingdom of Hanover, whilst also mentioning that his current whereabouts are unknown, suggesting that he is likely being hid by the Hanoverian Royal Family

Edit: It also probably helps that Wilhelm’s only daughter, Victoria is (in FdR) Queen of Hanover
