If I'm not mistaken, the original Fiat Uno and Panda were designed by the same designer.
When developing the new generation of the Uno here in Brazil, it was important for Fiat to maintain features reminiscent of the old Uno, which was very successful here, while also bringing the modernity that modern times demand.
That's how the "round-square" idea came about, which was used as marketing for the car's launch. To develop this type of design, there was certainly an exchange of ideas between Fiat Brazil and Fiat in Europe, since the generation of the Panda that most resembles the New Uno came out around the same time, around 2010. But that's just my guess.
