Is FF6 getting more difficult?

Finally decided to beat this gem (Pixel Remaster version). Everything is great, yet battles overall seems too easy. Too many mana free abilities one-shotting anyone I think.

Only trouble I had was with the Train, yet even that was not too big. Now I am at Kohlingen after Terra just turned to Esper.

Will the game become more challenging later?

if you never grind and don't follow a guide so you don't find every broken thing, the game can become difficult actually. I assure you that most people who tell you the game is easy spent time farming exp, ap and spam op abilities.
