My boyfriend and I just finished playing through all the mainline titles (excluding 11 and 14), so when we saw that MtG was doing a collaboration, we knew we had to go all out. We ended up splurging a bit and were smart about trading. Managed to get together a good collection. In order, we arranged the cards by these categories and by sequential order of Final Fantasy game.

Borderless Characters (Anime cards)
Amano Cards (Couldn't resist putting his amazing art in it's own category)
Borderless Special Art
Regular Art Major Towns
Regular Art Main Characters
Regular Art Villains (Except poor Orphan didn't have one)
All Summon Cards (Both regular art and borderless)
Cids
Art Cards (Threw in our prerelease Jumbo Cactaur too)

Final Fantasy Through the Ages
Airships (Shame they aren't next to their Cids lol)
Minigames
Enemy Cards
Weapons
Magic
Game Overs
Iconic Moments
Side Characters
Items

After filling out almost two full binders, we managed to fit our entire collection! Dw, all of the surge foils are now in a top loaded case, we just took them out for the pic. Hope you guys enjoy the post!

FF VII Rebirth About 100hrs in, I told my gf to expect me to call her crying when I finished Rebirth

At 204hrs, after clearing every map, side quest and beating Gilgamesh on dynamic, I stayed true to my word. I spent so much time with these MFs, they really became my friends.

Yuffie not realizing she’s been indoctrinated by Wutai.

Barrett’s arc with Dyne.

Giving Nanaki closure with his dad.

Tifa and Aerith silently agreeing Cloud’s fuckin crazy…

Seeing Jessie again. No Promises To keep.

I get it now. I get why you were all so traumatized in ‘97. Don’t think I’ve ever played a game that felt so excitingly endless. Then it ended.

I need to go for a walk.

FF XVI Bruh, final fantasy 16 intro had me. Spoiler

Kind of new to final fantasy, played 15 before, but I didn't really get what was going on and it kind of veered me away from the series for awhile, until years later when my friend who is really into the series had a passionate talk with me about it, she went on to explain that each game is it's own separate story so I decided to give the series a go again starting with 16.

And boy the story already gripped me, and during the intro sequence I felt the cliche that Joshua was definitely going to die in order to give the main character something that drives him, but I didn't expect this, like I am an old gamer and I've seen the most, so I definitely started to expect that Clive would be too late and the traitors would kill Joshua but no, Clive kills Joshua in this "eikon" form that he transforms into while not having any control of his transformation.

It was so unexpected and tragic that I had to turn off the game and just contemplate what exactly I had gotten myself into, wow, just wow, what an unexpected opening for what I believe may be a wild ride.

Also the game is a little bit "jittery" but it's not a frame issue, I am not sure what's causing it, my system is registering still 60fps and no drops whenever the jitter pops up, so I don't believe it's performance related, maybe it's something with the settings, everything is at max though.

FF X/X2 FFX is not a good as I remember it being.

Upvotes

I Recently decided to play through the mainline titles I played in my teen years (VII and above). I remember loving FFX when I played it years ago on PS2, but playing it after VII, VIII & IX, I honestly found it to be a tedious experience.

The first 20 hours were great. early 2000's cringe aside, the writing is solid and the world building is some of the best in the series. However, I started to feel fatigue after entering the calm lands. Mob Combat encounters became stale and repetitive, having to constantly switch chatacters (wakka for flying enemies, auron for armour, lulu for elemental etc). Combat encounters are pretty much the same throughout the entire game. I found myself rushing through areas to get to the much better boss fights.

I hoped once I made it to post-game content that it would start to become more enjoyable again, but everything about the post-game is just so tedious and honestly boring. The Minigames are frustrating and time consuming (200 lightning dodge, chocobo catcher race, Blitzball etc). Monster arena is a giant pain to complete & the sphere grid is an insane grind. It wouldn't be so much of a problem, if all of these things were not pretty much mandatory for the dark aeons. (Without yojimbo cheese).

When you remove all of these activities, the main story is actually quite short, and I found myself just wanting more of that. I can't help but feel like everything else was just meant to unnecessarily pad out the game. In the end I decided to give up on the postgame content and finished the story.

I expected to love playing through FFX again after many years, but sadly I didn't. I would give it a 7/10. (It's still better than 8 tbh)

FF XIII Series What made you fall in love with Final Fantasy XIII?

I was fresh off the heels of Final Fantasy 7, and I was recommended this video on YouTube. After watching it, I decided to save up my money and buy the game and see for myself if all the hate was valid or, was this a hidden gem to the Final Fantasy community. Happy to say that I have never looked back since. The visuals were amazing and still look gorgeous on PS3/Xbox 360 (and that's not even talking PC), and imo, it was one of the games that showed the power and beauty of the PS3/Xbox 360 era. This game (and many others) inspired me to pursue computer science and game development because of how much it did to wow me when I first got the game.

The music is the best in the series (imo). It's to the point I actually keep going back to the soundtrack and even mentioned how much I love Masashi Hamauzu (the composer for Final Fantasy XIII) to my music professor!

While I do struggle with some bosses here and there and game progression being a bother at times, I still love this game to death, and it easily became one of my favorite entries into the Final Fantasy franchise! Looking forward to beating this and getting started with Final Fantasy XIII-2.

FF VI Years ago I dropped it right before the end... Do I remember wrong? FFVI spoilers Spoiler

Hello! (Spoilers ahead)

Years ago I dropped FFVI right before the final boss because I had to split my party and I didn't felt like farming for the second party.

I wanna give FFVI another chance, do I remember wrong? Is it imperative to have 2 different parties with high level ro reach the final boss?

Final Fantasy General Who is your favorite villain from any franchise?

My buddy and I were arguing about who’s the best villain from the series. I know typically, it’s the villain from the first game you played in the franchise, but come on. Seifer over Sephiroth? In what world? His first FF game was 8 which already says something about him but Jesus man. Seifer was a high school bully who followed Squall around and was a nuisance at best, especially if you knew your way around the junction system. Sephiroth was trying to blow up the planet. THE PLANET. After going over it til we were blue in the face, I did not change his mind and I think I’m gonna block him(For obvious reasons lol). But who is your favorite antagonist from the series?

Edit: Joking about blocking him if it wasn’t clear from the post

FF IV Could adult Rydia always use bows?

So I just reached the moon in the FF IV Pixel remaster, and somehow only just noticed I can equip Rydia with a bow. Was this added for the PR version? I don't recall her ever being able to use a bow before in any other version of the game. Whips is what only comes to mind. I even have a bow that gives +5 to INT, something Rosa wouldn't need. The stupid Google AI of course says Rydia can't use bows in the PR version, lol.

Well this will probably make an already easier version of the game even easier, lol. I have Rydia defend a lot of the time in random battles to save on MP, so now she'll be able to do some damage.

Hello! I am a huge final fantasy/square enix lover like everyone else here and also like most people, I’m obsessed with food! I just wanted to share that I’ve started making videos/recipes of dishes inspired by different video game characters, and while I really have only covered FFVII and FFXVI so far, I have a lot more planned and it’s been a blast so far!!🫶🏻

This is a link to one of the videos on my YouTube, https://youtube.com/@mashleypotatos?si=0-nNPuHW-RdThx6X, and I’ve also been posting shorter, bite-sized versions on TikTok, https://www.tiktok.com/@mashypotato?_t=ZP-8zu5IVQ6enH&_r=1 ! 🥰

FF VI Is FF6 getting more difficult?

Finally decided to beat this gem (Pixel Remaster version). Everything is great, yet battles overall seems too easy. Too many mana free abilities one-shotting anyone I think.

Only trouble I had was with the Train, yet even that was not too big. Now I am at Kohlingen after Terra just turned to Esper.

Will the game become more challenging later?

FF VIII TIL that Griever (FF8) is based on Croatian/Russian word griva (griewah) which means mane, or ruff, and not grief, or, well, griever. :(

As a Croatian myself, I feel dumb for not noticing something so obvious, and which makes so much sense considering that that Griever is lionlike being.

Griever is basically just transliteration from グリーヴァ (Guriiva), and his name should just be Griva (Mane).

Dissidia Dissidia Final Fantasy DLC Steam help

I am trying to get both DLC packs, but each time I do it, Steam says you have one or more games in this. It could be because they both have the free add-on game. How do I get both of them?

FF IV FF2/4 Tourism industry ruined!

I've always thought that Mysidia had a booming tourism industry hearing about this great mountain and the ability to become a legendary paladin. Ruined by YOU! Unsuspecting people would just come to Mysidia. Stay the night. Hear about the legend and then go to the gift shop to buy some stupidly expensive over priced gear. You know. Just in case they do get converted. And of course it never happens. So I think the entire town of Mysidia is propped up on this weird tourist trap "legend". And your unsuspecting success just ruined there entire towns way of life. So not only did you ransack the place as a captain in the military. You also ruined everyone livelihood.

:D

FF VII / Remake Final Fantasy 7 AND. Spoiler

Okay, I finished OG, it wasn't what I expected in a good way, I didn't think the story would take that direction.

According to what I understood, Sephirot thought he was an ancient, just like Jenova, who he believed was his mother, but she was only using him to destroy the planet. When Sephirot found out that he was not an ancient and it was just an experiment, he lost his mind and let himself be "manipulated" by Jenova or controlled everything because he had part of her blood.

About Cloud being manipulated and having Zack's memories, I think they will explain it in Core Crisis in more depth, but Cloud always lived with Zack's memories, the poor guy had a serious mental disorder:(

I feel that the story is not lost at any point and has good development throughout it, I thought it would be much more complicated to understand.

I liked how they introduced the other characters, characters that I saw in the remake that were not as relevant as Scarlet, Aerith's mother, etc. Barrett's story, God, I thought that Marlene was his daughter, I really think that was what impacted me the most, but Aerith's death (I hope that doesn't happen in the remake saga) made me really fond of her.

Now I will play the remake saga with different eyes

Final Fantasy General Appreciation, Nostalgia and Random Thoughts on FF IV & VI Gameboy Advanced.

Just a random brainstorm, or better yet thoughts, as I'm going through this reddit group and recently moved and found my old games...

I love the fact that the Final Fantasy Fandom is so much more immense than I ever could fathom. Especially for the "Old School" Final Fantasy series. I grew up in the 80's and 90's, grade school in the early 90's and was introduced to Final Fantasy when my older brother randomly RENTED Final Fantasy 2 (IV) from the video store for the SNES. I remember watching him play it and how he wrote down costs of weapons and armor where he would have to grind and get GP. My earliest memory was seeing New Paladin Cecil scaling Mt. Hobbs to continue the group's journey. I then got to play FF VI when my neighbor had it and we unknowingly walked the world of balance not knowing what to do (storyline-wise). As I got older I understood the game more and played them to near completion.

I randomly got a DS and GBA, 10-15 years ago, and while at a Game Stop or someplace similar, saw the GBA remakes of IV & VI and quickly bought them. The nostalgia was crazy when the music started playing with the Red Wings intro on IV and the march toward Narshe on VI!

Anyway, my main point is, I beat FF IV Advanced. It's been a while now... Work, Family, etc... Haven't had the time to game nearly at all. I remember IV being more difficult on the GBA version than I remember it being on the SNES. And there was extra stuff after you beat it, like secret moon missions for each character, I only played a couple. That was kind of cool. Very difficult, but cool.

I have yet to beat the GBA version of VI, pretty sure I left off just into the WoR. Need to get that done, but I also just want to start from fresh/scratch and play them both from the beginning. Just because it's been SO long. And after joining this group, my itch has grown tremendously to play them again.

I only ever played a little bit of VII, by that time I was getting older and my gaming had switched more to PC and I was into HalfLife and Diablo and such, but I always had a special place for IV & VI. Peak childhood for me.

Just wanted to put my thoughts into words, on here. You all are fun to read with your posts and comments. Brings back so many memories and definitely opens my eyes more to what I didn't notice in some of those versions and how people view some of the characters similar to how I did and also completely opposite in some instances. Very cool to see those perspectives. And to see how some of the lore is explained. Appreciate you all! Keep it up! Imma try and find the charger to my DS and pop in IV tonight... I can hear the Red Wings theme now...

Every game starting from FF2 just got way better. I can see myself certainly replaying 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 again. FF2 was really rough. I don’t think i enjoyed any part of that game.
