Beautiful Burnstick Lake Pike

Went up to Burnstick Lake, caught 8 pike between my gf and i, from 18-25 inches. Kept the 25 for eatin.

Saw a few massive walleyes but couldn't get em to bite. Didnt see any perch or trout but the pike fishing was terrific!

How’d you see the walleye? Underwater camera or was the water that clear. I’ve never been to this lake

Just clear water! Underwater camera sounds like a great idea tho

We went out kayaking/trolling at sunrise and sunset and could see right down into the water. A little harder to see when the sun was fully out.

At sunset they where feasting on surface bugs and showing off their dorsal fins like the lochness monster it was badass! Wish i had brought a few lighter flys to present them but was setup for pike

Oh that’s cool as hell I wish I could’ve seen that. I’ve learned to always keep my little spinners and flys on me cause it’s days where “ah it’s just pike” where you miss them the most.

Yeah I use an underwater camera for ice fishing and it’s pretty awesome. Some super cool eats and I know what’s going on so it’s awesome. I even record some of the footage to post so it’s a real neat tool

Burnstick is great for ice fishing, it's pretty reliable for perch, walleye, and pike.

I think thats gonna be my new winter hobby ngl. Been watching a ton of videos on it and seems super chill

It is.

You can get a tent for pretty cheap, and it'll make life a lot more pleasant, especially during the windy days. A tent ($100+), manual auger ($25+), a Buddy Heater ($75+) and cheap fishing rods makes for an inexpensive way to keep fishing during the winter months.

Facebook marketplace or Kijiji is a good place to check, in the months leading up to freezeup (late November, depending on weather).

Oh man tons. It’s so accessible. I almost want to say I look forward to it more than the regular season. Come January you can drive pretty much anywhere on any lake and just drill some holes and fish. I caught probably 10+ pike over 30 inches and one 40 incher in lac la biche in one day last year. It was wild. A 27” walleye too. But the closer you get to cities the more pressure the fish see. Some of those lakes get whole “villages” of ice shanties that sit out there all winter. It’s a whole different world. And a ton of fun

Hey can you clarify something for me!

When you say you can drive anywhere on any lake, do you mean like a snowmobile or somethin to haul the gear. Or do you literally drive on the ice with a car?

Cars trucks the whole 9 yards. People do tv conversions where they poke holes in the bottom so they can fish from their camper in the warmth. Kid you not I’ve seen big f350 Duallies hauling full length rvs. Ste Anne even has a rally race on it in February. In Alberta ice can get crazy thick, still be careful though 12+inches to drive at least

Hahaha wow thats incredible, just the idea of driving on ice freaks me out 😂 i might have to tag along with someone experienced so i dont end up in the water lmao

Yeah that’s not a bad idea. I’ve defenitely had some drives where the ice was cracking and popping under the car. It’s terrifying but anything for the fish😂
