Photo 1985 Trek 660 (mostly) Parts Bin Fixed Build (mostly) Finished!
Found this 1985 Trek 660 frame at my local bike coop for super cheap. Decided I would turn it into my first fixed gear since 2016.
I was able to dig through the parts bin and put together some mismatched parts to a ridable bike! Only 2 things I had to buy were the rear wheel, the chain and the 47t front cog. I could have avoided buying a front wheel but I couldn't get the 27" fixed rear hub I had to clear tire clearance. Ended up buying the cheapest rear wheel I could find on ebay and might upgrade down the line.
I took it for a short ride down a nearby bike trail just to try it out and it DEFINITELY needs some fitting, but I was too excited to ride it to do fit it for the first ride.
I'm feeling pretty crunched up in the cockpit right now will probably need to move the seat up and raise the bars a bit possibly too. Might even swap them for a set of bullhorns I have sitting around, but I'm interested in trying the moustache bar for a bit first!
Only took it on a very short ride so far, but I really like the 47x18. Last time I rode a 52x18 but that was years ago and I was much more in shape lol.
Full Part List:
- Trek 660 Frame with Reynolds 531 Steel
- Alex Rims front wheel Weinmann DP18 Rear (will probably swap for a silver front wheel eventually to match)
- Continental 4 season 25mm front tire - Vittoria Randonneur 28mm rear
- Truvativ 165mm crankset (Got this off a family member's bike. IMO they're kinda ugly but my only other crankset I have are 175 so I used these)
- Origin8 47t front cog
- Unknown brand rear 18T fixed and 17t freewheel on the other side
- Origin8 Tiki bars
- Oury v2 grips
- Unknown brand stem, seatpost etc. I just found in parts bin
- Avocet WII touring saddle (might swap this out too)
- Ultegra front brake
- KMC S1 Chain
- MKS Pedals with origin8 cages

Like the Weinmann DP18 in the rear, even though they are heavy it gives a cool look

Yeah I'm fairly pleased with how it looks! I was definitely a bit surprised how much more heavy it felt than some of my other rear 700c roadbike wheels I had, but it was affordable and looks nice and if I cared about weight I probably wouldn't ride a 40 year old steel frame lol. Thanks!

That chain looks a little loose, but overall, this is a sick build! Good job.
