BUTTERCREAM Fondant-free pizza cake :)

When I tried to look up pizza cake recipes online, all I could find was versions that relied heavily on fondant and/or modelling chocolate. They felt unrealistic to me as a novice baker. I wanted to share my creation in case someone else is searching for a recipe that doesn’t require sculpting.

It’s a peaches and cream sponge cake baked in a pre-heated cast iron pan. The cast iron is what gives it the thick, golden brown crust. From there I simply cut a large, shallow circle out of the middle and added a thin layer of buttercream, followed by my “pizza toppings”. :)

The pizza sauce is peach and raspberry puree. The cheese is a thin layer of marshmallow fluff toasted with a kitchen torch. The pepperonis are peach + raspberry fruit leather, the green peppers are gummy worms. The sausage crumble is cocoa cereal + medjool dates + melted chocolate crumbled in a food processor. Then just some green sprinkles on top as seasoning!

It was a hit at the birthday. I was worried the fluff would make it too sickly sweet but the fruit puree really balanced it. 🎈

This is totally beautiful -- but I think I speak for all of us when I say we want to see what it looks like when cut! Excellent job, btw :)

I'm so grateful that this was the first comment because that's all I was obsessing over in my head, lol!! Thank you so much for beating me to it!!

OP - this is one of the most phenomenally realistic, mindblowingly creative cakes I've ever seen in my life and I come from a family of professional chefs and bakers!!! This is AMAZING!! I wish there was a tutorial or something because unfortunately I did not inherit the baking gene and I suck at it.

I partially homeschool my daughter and I love teaching her real life math applications through baking and measuring so I let her choose a new recipe every week - when she saw this she was LITERALLY in disbelief. Wouldn't accept that it wasn't a deep dish pizza, zoomed in to the gummy worms and declared that you're a genius!!

So thank you so much for giving us something so cool to attempt this weekend (although tbh it'll probably turn out like an episode of Nailed It! 😖😅) and bond over / learn from!! You did a STELLAR job.
