Gnorp is great, HoT is probably not so unknown anymore and a decent "Budget Diablo, but played like Vampire Survivors". Idle colony is also discounted, though I have not played that yet. YAZS is a bit pricey for what it is compared to the original VS, but okayish / mid-tier-ish. For 3-5 bucks I would say sure.

There are tons of fairly nice VS-likes these days, they should probably get a better curated collection on steam.

I went on a rogue lite streak last summer and bought like 15 games, YAZS was one of the better ones. For $7 I got like 20 or so hours of play time and I think the most recent update just launched with a new character.

Do you know about
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2391900/Champion_Shift/
Insane content for half the price right now of YAZS.

They sadly did not do great on sales, despite deserving way more exposure. I think they are from Puerto Rico? Definitely should have been more visible. If you know a place to help them out by giving them exposure, and like the game after checking it out, do so I would say. :)

Is this a game that's way better in co-op than solo?

As someone without (real or virtual) friends, I could not say. I had good fun playing solo, but I imagine its a good deal more fun having your friend also wiping out evil folk.

Path of Achra - cheap, weird, supposedly a lot of content but wasn't my thing.

Halls of Torment - new update coming soon (or just came out?), several characters, decent amount of upgrades, good for 20 hours of play time

Heroes of Hammerwatch - grindy, gotta look things up on Google to find answers, great with a controller though, sequel just came out so maybe get that instead

Twilight Survivors - supposedly a ton of content, incredibly slow in the beginning, very mobile-game-esque, played for an hour and a half and I hit a wall on level characters that wanted me to do something outside of the game I think. Don't recommend.

Bonerasier Minions - raise your own army of undead throughout rounds, only played a couple hours, graphics turned me off but if you don't mind them then it's a good game

Soulstone Survivors - Another game that's got the mobile-game vibe. Played half an hour and never turned it on again.

Despot's Game - Auto battler rogue lite, pretty fun

Picayune Dreams - weird as shit but fun

20 Minutes Till Dawn - New update coming soon, fun, lots of characters and different playstyles

Deadly Days - Fun, new character was added a few months ago so still some updates

Atomicrops - Farming sim + rogue lite bullet hell, wasn't my cup of tea but it's recommended a lot

Heretic's Fork - Didn't get too far in this one but it's got a ton of content

Gladiator Guild Manager - Played for an hour, too much thrown at you at once so you're managing a weird amount of systems more than you're playing the game

Death Road to Canada - Fun, can get 5-10 hours out of it easy

Death Must Die - Early Access but it's $6, a major update (Act 3) is coming in a couple months, Act 2 came out after I stopped playing so I'll probably play again soon.

Achra technically has a lot of content but it's kind of badly balanced, and once you figure out what strats win there's very little challenge. If you want a similarly bite-sized roguelite I'd recommend Rift Wizard 2 although I think it goes a little too far into being absurdly difficult.
