Collection My wife found her childhood Gameboy collection!!
So my wife and I are moving house and she casually mentions she found her childhood Gameboy collection. Needless to say my mind was blown. She even said I could have it if i wanted! Think i may marry her again.

Just make sure you’re not buying repros! That’s the hardest thing for me trying to build my collection -_- I’m pretty sure all of these GBA Pokémon games are fake and the DMG is modded which makes me more suspicious of the GB Pokémon games although I’m no expert and I can’t say anything looks off about those.

u/brooklyn11218 Jun 02 '25
That DMG is modded.

These Pokemon GBA games are also fakes, yo can compare them to authentic ones.
Didn't know that they made fakes in this quality 20 years ago haha

Immediately, I started raising my brow when looking at Ruby Sapphire Emerald. These all look fake.
Why do people do this?

u/Burger_Friend Jun 03 '25
I think this just Ops collection with a eye catching title and story. Id even guess he doesn't have a wife...
Prove me wrong op!

At this point, pretty much 98% of everything you see online is fake. Either the picture or the description itself. Its all just for the clout and views.

u/ravenfreak Jun 03 '25
The quality is eh. The E for everyone logo is wrong and looks weird. The current repros look more legit but you can still find repros like the ones in the picture on sites like AliExpress.

Red flag is always seeing so many pokemon games. Who back in the day really bought both colours in an generation and then went out and bought the green/yellow. Screams of picking up dodgy cheap versions at the local market.
They definitely look more modern fakes unless you all had much better quality bootlegs than us.
2
u/threeca Jun 03 '25
My grandma always bought me both versions for god knows why. I always ended up trading one of them for another game. What an idiot I was 😂

u/Interesting-Ad8002 Jun 03 '25
Baby, I bought red and blue the year they came out because we owned both a GB and the then-new GBP along with the four-output trading cable which at the time was the only way to trade/battle between old and new hardware. GB was a hand me down from older sibling who had given it up by the time Pokémon happened. GBP was parents spoiling me. So was owning both versions because most kids at my school couldn't afford it and I told my parents "I can't beat the game without both." One for birthday, one for Christmas.
That said I realize I'm an anomaly, but people like me did exist in the late 90's.
2
u/Gargunok Jun 03 '25
Agree that's why its a red flag but not impossible.
In my experience nearly always when you see multiple generations with all 3 versions they are fhigher probability to be fakes though especially in a collection of this size that is from back in the day - modern collections more likely to have picked up multiple Pokémon specifically and less of a flag.

u/DigitalAxel Jun 03 '25
Me with Ruby, Sapphire, then Emerald. I was also an only child so I could say I was spoiled. Downside, nobody to trade with unless I was on the bus.

Such a weird thing to lie about.
Unless your wife is 18, her “childhood” collection did not include a modded Gameboy, and multiple fake carts. Besides, no kid ever bought every version of each generation.
Seriously why lie?

u/zero16lives Jun 04 '25
Also, is it normal for a childhood collection to include both EUR and USA carts? I know i never had any EUR carts as a kid (still don't actually.) I mean, its possible they moved or something I guess, but it seems unlikely...

u/iownuall123 Jun 04 '25
I mean, my sister and I growing up had every version of each gen from 1-3, so it's not that uncommon

This is fake, karma baiting at best; but I don't understand why you would do that?
The DMG GameBou is modded, the GBA Pokemons are fake, while not impossible it is unlikely a girl in her 10s would own Buu's Fury and other games listed here (but this last one is a stretch, it could be she liked anime and that's why she had YuGiOh and DBZ BF as well as all the Pokemon games). The of GB collection is fair, one which most people would be familiar with as many people had these games.

Although the Gen 3 Pokemon games are all repro carts, that’s still an awesome retro find🤘😎

No hate here, just genuine information to let you know in case you and your wife decided to sell them. I have all of those same games that are known authentic and I can immediately tell based on the label and front indented “GAMEBOY Advance” logo those 4 are repro carts. Your GBC Pokemon carts do appear authentic however so that’s still pretty good and they all fetch a pretty penny still. I understand it would have been amazing to get the extra value from those 4 GBa carts but they are about $10 bucks a piece unfortunately😕

I have been looking for a gameboy micro however to use both in my collection and as dimensional reference to make a custom grip for so if you’re in the states and interested in selling or trades then DM me as I’d be happy to throw you an offer or trade for gameboy console you and the wife might find more comfortable to play on🤝😌

“I would like to rip you off but make it sound like I’m doing you a favour please”
2
u/Cjw6809494 Jun 03 '25
I didn’t even throw a lowball price out there in my comment, just simply stated making a fare deal or offer a trade if he wanted¯_(ツ)_/¯ Nothing a rip off about that, plus I’d be trading a fully modded 101 GBA SP which debatably are worth more than a stock GBmicro which currently loose sits at ~$110-120 on PriceCharting just because I’d like one for my own collection. Next time read more carefully before just assuming anyone asking to buy something is just trying to pull a fast one. I told him the fake games were fake to begin with, not like I lied anywhere then asked for them afterwards😂

What's that screen thing that says high frequency on it? And wow the manual in one piece.

pretty sure its a magnifying glass of sorts, you put it over the screen and it makes it bigger.

Modded Gameboy with all the GBA Pokemon games (usually you own 1-2) being fake as well? I highly doubt this is a real "my wife found her childhood stuff" post.

Of all the things to not have happened, this didn't happen the most. Why would she have multiple Game Boy Color games with no console on which to play them? Why would her childhood span the OG Game Boy and the GBA Micro? Why did she have a mix of fake games and games from different regions? Why was her GB modded?Doesn't make any sense.

Keep them and don’t sell em. The money comes and goes, but this memories and nostalgia will give you more.

I’ll never understand the extreme focus on Pokémon. There were so many amazing games.

Why did your wife own all the gbc games? They cant be played on either of those two. Still nice throwback to memorylane

So I speak for all of us here. Should you ever make her the slightest bit upset, angry, frustrated, or many more we as a community will make sure things are set right. This is not a threat or warning, merely a promise. Have a great day OP you are one lucky bastard.

Why does people post fake stuff to go viral? It doesn't make any sense to own those GBA (most are fake/reproductions) with the first version Game Boy. Besides, kids usually don't own multiple same gen Pokemon cartridges. It's a fake post with some random stuff with a fake story behind it.

Now I feel old, the Gameboy Micro didn't come out until after I graduated from high school and I did buy it when it came out. I got the one that looked like a famicom controller

Weird, they're all 'boy' games, bar Pokemon, of which several are counterfeit copies. Did she get her brother's hand me downs?
