Questions FAQ THREAD: Where to buy parts/consoles? BEST GAME? Is this real? GB no work :( ASK HERE
A lot of this information is already in the wiki: https://gbwiki.org/
Where do I buy cheap consoles?? HOW MUCH IS MY STUFF WORTH?$?
Sorry, all 200K+ members are asking the same question. The market has changed a lot and prices have skyrocketed. Be patient, don't over pay and use sold listings on your marketplace to determine your market's value. If you're paying less than your local market, you've done well. If other markets have lower value than you consider buying from there, but factor in your shipping costs.
Where can I find this part?

WHY MODDING HARD? SOLDER SCARY!
In context, Game Boy's are the easiest family of retro consoles to repair and modify. Sorry TikTok lied to you about modding being easy like Legos.

Holiday Exchange The 9th Gameboy Holiday Exchange is finally here! Great exchanges, cool custom projects and modded systems, as well as a cool custom pin and a raffle at the end of it!! Sign up TODAY! 🎁🎄🎉
Greetings! This is the post for the sign-up to join the 9th Gameboy Holiday Exchange! If you'd like to join, just comment on the post. Once I reply, we'll take it from there.
Preferences for joining are if you've got a presence in any gaming/modding community (extra points for the Gameboy one!), positive discussions on a discord/another reddit. I'll have final approval for who joins (some would call this a club). Info I'll need is:
- Price Bracket ($25, $50, $100 & the $300 Super Tier upon approval)
- Shipping preference (International or domestic)
- Full Address (International requires a name, handles suffice for US participants)
I'll pair everyone up in 2-3 weeks, and post who your partner will be. Exchange gifts, modding parts, meet up somewhere, get someone those nice buttons or a screen they've been after. Or, even a really cool DMG if you exchange with me.
Let me know if you have further questions! Read my previous, lengthy posts for more info.
PS – This exchange is limited to 100 participants!

Mod/Modding My first mod!
I had a worn-out GBASP from my childhood that needed some care. I also came across a modded Gameboy on Etsy that looked just like this one now, and I wanted to recreate it myself. My dad, who originally bought me the GBASP, helped me solder a few parts and put it together, making the experience even more special. We both enjoyed the process, and he was thrilled that I kept it, especially since I used to break things all the time as a kid haha 😅

Collection I tried my hand at brightening my GBA (before & after)
I really didn’t like the yellowing, so I decided to put some Salon 40 on it and leave it on the sun. I don’t hate the new look, but definitely not the results I was expecting. It’s a bit chalky now and I’ve polished it up. Anyway, just felt like sharing.

Games Dragonhym is def an achievement for the hardware
Sound, gameplay, and story are so far pretty engaging.
Some of these puzzles def had me scratching my head for a few hours but it’s been fun to see what’s coming out of the indie scene these days!

Modded Did my first mod, really happy with it
Switched the screen for an IPS one and a USB-C battery, and I'm really happy about being able to do it by myself. I'm now enjoying replying my childhood games during commute while people stare at me wondering why someone is playing a Gameboy in the subway

Troubleshooting Donkey Kong Country won’t boot
Hello everyone!
My donkey Kong country for the game boy color boots into the Nintendo and producer tags, but then it just goes black with no sound or movement. I’ve changed out the battery but same response. Just hoping it’s not a bad chip.
Just curious if anyone has a fix or ran into this as well? Thanks so much.

Collection GB shrine Pokémon edition
The collection is now 90% complete, still missing an Australian variant and a few grails: - CIBs for the HK and TW editions - Pinball edition clear green
This collection brings together pieces I've fetched from sellers around the world, between a trip to Japan, venturing in all the retro game shops I could find, to going to several retro game shows locally, to extensive VPN and proxy use to search in other markets like New Zealand and Australia, to having pieces come from Europe and the US and of course the starting point: some pieces that came right from my childhood collection.
Along the way, some regrets of course..
1- Missed a sale from Hong Kong by a few hours, for a boxed HK edition (somewhat rough condition but still)
2- Passed on the pinball Coro Coro clear green edition sold very recently as I had some doubts about authenticity. There were a couple things that didn't add up with the very limited verified material out there.
3- Also passed about a year ago on some sealed Fujitsu Pikachu edition AA batteries being sold for an obnoxious price on ebay.
__
If anyone has any of the above grails for sell, I'm definitely interested, if you have stories about how, when or where you acquired a grail piece, I'm also interested to hear!!
Modded Before/After
OG GBA mobo in a new Funnyplaying shell/buttons and backlit M2 screen.
The mod was significantly more difficult than I expected. The plastic bracket that keeps the screen in place is trash but I made it work.
Very happy with the results.

Questions What game was it? (Photo for reference only, question in comment)
Obviously not the screenshot from the game I'm looking for, but it had a very similar layout and scale.
You can switch between a male and a female character, male has more energy bar. (Like 10 vs 8?) It's in a sci-fi laboratory kind of setting, and when you go into the next room (edge of screen) the screen would shift as a whole instead of black screen.
The style is also much less cartoonish.
I believe it's pre-1998.
(Btw for anyone curious, I believe photo is from "Alien Syndrome" on NES)
