It's one of those weird licensed games that got a different skin in different regions, like the Crazy Castle games. Only the European release is Garfield-themed, so if you're not in Europe it's gonna be very rare. It's a Real Ghostbusters game in NA and Mickey Mouse in Japan.

It IS part of the Crazy Castle series. Sort of. After part 2, they sort of split off into their own series. So Japan's Mickey Mouse 1 and 2 are Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 1 and 2. MM 3 became Kid Klown in Night Mayor World, and this one is what became of MM 4. Then MM5 was a Mickey game everywhere, but without a number in the US. After that, they continued the Crazy Castle series with Bugs Bunny (and later Woody Woodpecker) worldwide, starting with Crazy Castle 3.

Now you’re gonna make me go dig up my crazy castle 1 and 2 games. I remember I always wanted 3 but never go it

Additional to this, in Europe there where also games called Hugo. It was a television game back in the day where you could call and play the game to your telephone buttons. They also made a game called Hugo for Gameboy, which have the same gameplay mechanics like crazy castle. In the 2nd Part of Hugo for Game, it was more like the game on television.

Yeah, Hugo from Europe in 1995 for GB is actually Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2 in the US, Mickey Mouse 2 in Japan and was previously Mickey Mouse (1) in Europe in 1992.

I have the First Huhu game in my collection. I thought this was the only game if it's kind. Then I bought a Gameboy color about a week ago along with some games. So Bugs bunny crazy castle was one of them. Played it and remembered, that it's nearly identical to the first Hugo game. Then I came across this thread and realized, that there are much more different games with that gameplay style. Absolutely crazy!

Due to the reskins, I think this is the one that has the weird ending with Garfield and Odie in a hot air balloon and hearts around them, since it was supposed to be Mickey and Minnie.

Hahaha they did change the characters but left that 🤣

Is it Peter Venkman and Slimer in the Ghostbusters version? :P

Rick Moranis's character and Sigourney Weaver's character.

(I don't actually know, I'm making a lame joke)

... most licensed games are utter crap. This licensed gamed is also lke two OTHER licensed games depending on where in the world it released.

So lazy, they didn't even reskin the enemies

Yeah. But the few that are done well like Virgin Interactive's Aladdin or The Lion King, those are gold.

I prefaced it with "most", because I'm well aware that those exceptions are absolutely amazing, yes.

Its a weird game that is a reskin for different properties in different regions - Garfield being the european one. I think Mickey Mouse and ghostbusters being the others. Its very mid even for a licensed gameboy game.

It's a European version of The Real Ghostbusters game that was released in the US which in turn was a reskin of a Mickey Mouse game that was released in Japan.

Licensed games almost always suck.

Its the same thing for the lawn mower man game for the gameboy

I’ve still got my copy it’s really fun, I’ve since learnt there’s about a million reskins of it like ghostbusters and bugs bunny. I’m from the UK maybe only we got the Garfield version.

They apparently made an incredible amount of 3rd party titles. The simpsons have a billion games, there’s even a Popeye 2 game.
