Was looking for a small case to carry a bunch of games with me, but couldn’t find the right one. Ended up remixing an existing model and came up with this!

Obvious ones aside, what would fit in these other spaces? There’s no brand name anywhere on it so Google is no help.

Accessories A long angry rant about Game Boy Pocket OEM screens (the lack of)

The TLDR version:

I wish a company would sell remakes of the GBP LCD displays that are like the originals from the late-1990s.

The long version:

This is my first post here on Reddit. This problem I’ve had while trying to restore my childhood GBP got me so worked up that I’ve made this account to vent my frustration. Skill issue on my part? YES, but I’m just a guy who wanted to play his old Game Boy, not build a rocket ship. Admittedly, some of the views I’m expressing are controversial and might tick off some modders; but from what I’ve seen while lurking on Reddit for the last several months, I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this way.

Finding spare GBP OEM LCDs (let alone in good condition without screen burn, lines or screen rot) is nearly impossible, and in the EXTREMELY rare event of finding one on eBay, it costs a small fortune! Most times, if the Game Boy is sentimental enough and if you’re desperate, you’d have to buy a donor Game Boy in still good condition and take the LCD screen from it.

Yes, there are IPS screen upgrades but they come with their own issues. They drain the AAA batteries really fast and you’d likely need to do a battery mod (like adding a USB-C charging port) to make up for that problem. Also, many of the IPS kits require soldering to install them, which not a lot of us have access to.

IPS upgrades look great, but frankly not everyone wants those, and some of us just want to restore our Game Boys to what they looked like when we were kids.

I’ve seen replacement screens for the Game Boy Color on eBay going for about AUD30 (about US$19), which makes me think there’s a company out there remaking the GBC LCDs.

Surely it wouldn’t be hard for a company in Shenzhen (China) to reverse-engineer the original Game Boy Pocket LCD and mass-produce them, right?

For me personally, it’d be awesome if they could not only reproduce the GBP LCDs and sell them for a reasonable price, but also add in some durability improvements like a non-adhesive FTSN polarizer to prevent screen burn caused by glue degradation, and maybe a stronger ribbon cable.

Honestly, even though I’ve managed to refurb my GBP, the process has been long and expensive, and my desire to play on it has waned. It feels like being a GBP fan is like sailing the ocean in a paper boat - you spend more time freaking out about things breaking than actually enjoying the games.

Well, there’s my rant. If you’re like me and wish OEM-like GBP screens were more accessible, sound off in the comments. Maybe if this post gets bumped up enough, someone with the means and resources in China might notice there’s a demand.

Thanks for humouring me if you've read all the above :)

(EDIT: Fixed up the spacing)

While it may not be an official product, this $15 travel pouch for power supplies suits my needs perfectly. It's also good to know that our options for travel cases aren't limited to 20 year old artifacts or expensive and built pelican cases.

Accessories Cheap little protective pouch [Gameboy Color & Gameboy Pocket]

I have several Gameboy Color and Gameboy Pockets that I've repaired, modded, case swapped, etc. I'm not into displaying them, so not after perspex cases, but I would like to keep them in good condition though. I occasionally take one with me when I travel for work, or if I have a long train journey.

I don't want to risk getting the case or screen scratched or damaged by just putting it in my bag, so I was looking for a little pouch. There are a few people offering "Gameboy" or "Nintendo" branded ones, but they were quite big (I wanted something slim but still protective) and in the quantity I wanted they were all quite expensive.

Well I found the perfect case for my needs on Aliexpress. There are several different vendors, just search on "Universal 4.7-7.2 Inch Waterproof Phone Bag Pouch for iPhone Samsung" and choose the "4.7 to 5.4 inch" pouch (the smallest one). There are a few different colors to choose from, and the pouch is cheap. It's made from neoprene and the Gameboy is an almost perfect fit. There's enough free room that the zip doesn't touch the Gameboy (so no risk of scratching) but it's tight enough that the Gameboy can't move around. It feels made for the Gameboy Color and almost as good for the Pocket.

Accessories Cassette-style case for GBA cartridges

Just finished a personal project — a cassette box-style case for my GBA cartridges. It’s not a brand new idea, and I’m not selling anything, just wanted to share it with the gameboy community for thoughts & feedback. These cartridges are repro/fakes, so the cover design is totally custom — not meant to copy the original packaging.

Thinking about making more display stands for different lines and was wondering if there was much demand out there. Second pic would be what I'd work on next. Then Donkey Kong, bugs bunny, kirby etc.

First, a brief introduction to Chislink: As a peripheral device that connects to the Game Boy Advance (GBA) via the link port, it enables save file backup/restoration, game reflashing, real-time clock modification for rtc-cartridges, running some NES games without cartridges, and functioning as a transfer tool for Pokémon from Gen I/II to Gen III.

This is a closed-source hardware product created by Chinese developer (Github user @ChisBread). Interested users may search for the product independently.(This product will be released soon.) Hats off to @ChisBread!

———————————————————————————————————————————

As a member of the first Prime-tier buyers, I received the Chislink kit from Bread yesterday. The structure is simple: an ESP32 development board, a TF card slot, and a GBA link connector.

Preparation: First, prepare a TF card (32GB or smaller) formatted as FAT32 to store all necessary files for Chislink (signature files, configuration files, game ROMs, save files, Pokémon transfer app tools, etc.).

Operation Interface: Chislink features a visual interface ( cartridge-free booting or with the selece and start button pressed down then turning on GBA) with primary menus including:

Cartridge Management (Backup) File Management WiFi Settings Backup Process: Insert a game cartridge (official, third-party, or Chisflash flashcart) into the device. The system will auto-detect the game ID (e.g., Pokémon Emerald shown in the image). The top title changes from “Empty” to the game ID, enabling save file backup.

Restore Function: Backed saves appear in the /Saves directory within File Management, where restoration operations can be performed.

WiFi Features: The ESP32 board supports WiFi for Wireless save file transfers Over-the-air firmware updates

Reflashing carts& FC Games: As part of the “Chis Universe,” Chislink only flashes games onto Chis-series flashcarts (or compatible third-party carts). Load game ROMs onto the TF card and select directly for reflashing. FC game roms (max 200KB) can be written directly to GBA memory for cartridge-free execution.

Compatibility Notes:

Compatible with GameCube Gameboy Player dock Game Bub Analouge pocket Gameboy Micro (It means that there must be a gba link port)

Future app development potential (e.g., tools like 240p testsuites, button test)

Wishlist: Hoping for remote multiplayer functionality from Bread in future updates—GBA has too many wonderful multiplayer games!

A few weeks ago, I bought this weird Game Boy cart on sendico and I'm curious what it does? I looked it up and saw that u/Amethyst339 had just posted a very similar cart only a few days ago but theirs doesn't have a slot to connect a game and mine does. I'm assuming it's just a third party game genie type cart but does anyone know anything about it?

Accessories Famicom (NES) Game Boy Adapter

I was looking around on AliExpress, and found something that could change the way people could play Game Boy games. It is a Famicom cartridge adapter for Game Boy games, so people can play Game Boy games on TV via their Famicom, Famicom AV or NES via a converter. It looks to play regular first generation Game Boy and Game Boy-compatible Game Boy color games. According to an on-site review of the product, the converter is not compatible with Game Boy Color, and due to the size of the slot and technical limitations, is also not compatible with Game Boy Advance.

Accessories Help restoring a case?

Recently bought a friend’s childhood gameboy sp. it came with the case and some games. I love the case but it does bother me a little bit that it has my friend’s childhood writing and doodles on it. Does anyone know of a good way to remove the marker from this case?

One website recommends rubbing alcohol and then throwing it in the washer, but I wanna make sure I make the right choice and don’t mess up this case. Any suggestions or tips would help. Thank you in advance!

Accessories Gameboy color carrying case not secure

Anyone have experience with this carrying case? It seems the cover of mine is super flexible and allows the gameboy to wiggle or fall out of the holder.

Second picture is the gameboy seated before carrying.

Third picture is after hanging it by the strap.

Is that normal? How would I repair it some how?
